With all Due Respect , I would Like to make a comment Here ! I am not sure How many of u have noticed it but my Frequency of Loging to TE Has been Tremendusly Decreased ! Earlier I used to easily spend 2-4 Hours on TE Daily but Now I spend Probably 2-4 Hours in 2 weeks , why ? Well for a simple Reason which Chaos Mentioned in his Last Post :

the primary objective why anyone comes to TE is to have fun... making it sound like a jail for thought will only force people to leave. I can find ten other forums which are probably better than TE right at this moment and join those... but thats not the point here. I love TE as I've been here right since its inception and of late, all I see is overmoderation.

I Completely agree with Chaos Here , Since the Split up of TE and FE , Techenclave for me Has been a Total Different Place ! Now I am Feeling a Total Stranger to a Place which Once I considered my Home on the web ! I am sure a lot of Other members Feel the Same way ! The Creaters/Mods Have Forgoten the True spirit of TE , Nowadays I Feel Like I am forced into all This Tech Talk ....... we were a community remember ,not Just a mear Tech Forum ! To be very Frank it was not the "Tech-Talk" which made TE Special , on the Contrary there are alot of other Tech forums which r way better then TE , wat made TE so Special was its spirit , its Members , its atmosphere which as of Late I Find Missing ! Agreed there Has been an Increase in the Number of members lately , but as they say the Numbers are Deceptive ! Frankly we all Know frm where and for what the Mojority of members are Joining Techenclave ( Torrent Invitations ) Lately , if it was not for the google torrent invitation Hunt , the number of members would Have been probably Half ! Now what I am Tryin to say here is that u Guyz Have to except the Fact that the Popularity and Quality of TE is Decreasing day by day ! Many experienced members r Turning away from TE now and the only one to Blame for that is the TE Staff ! Please Don't Misunderstand me , I am just Trying to express my Opinion ! Something should be done immediately to Bring back the True spirit of TE ! At Last Never forget it is the members which make or Break a Forum !

I apologize if I Have offended someone in this Post !
Just my 2 Cents ! :D

Alright I have moved this post here so that all of you can speak your mind and we can clear the chaos (no I am not talking about banning chaos :bleh: but the chaotic state on TE).
Dont get violent, its just an open talk session between members and you can tell the staff members what you expect from them and from TE.

If you feel that a certain mod/admin is getting a bit out of line or needs to change some of his ways then please mention that too. We would be taking that in a most construtive way and try our best to change that. You can even PM the mod for any feedback.

Now since it is an open talk thread I would be honest too. Even I have been sensing an awkward silence on TE for the past few weeks. So lets talk it out and see if anything can be done about it.

Any feedback for the betterment of TE is always welcome. But they are effective only when done in majority. 20 people coming and emphasizing a point is not majority for TE so make sure all of you participate here.

I know I'm gonna end up contradicting myself, but here goes :)

i feel TE should remain a forum with an emphasis on tech. but at the same time ,rigorously banning all the "other stuff " is too much of a drag... way too much like teachers telling us to shut up or talk only about the subject being taught :(

there are any number of sites like funenclave for timepass, and only diehard or regular TE members would bother to sign up at FE.

I wouldnt mind it being like old times, but maybe with a bit less importance fot the non tech bit( less subtopics maybe)

and another thing you might have noticed... i'd hate to be the one to point it out:ashamed: , but the number of ladies joining TE has come down DRASTICALLY after partition. and the ones who were there dont seem to be much active either these days

I loved TE when I joined. Over 800 posts in 5 months, TE used to be almost always on whether I was online frm wrk or home. Now I dont love TE. If I were not used to this place I'd been long gone...But Iam hooked and I cant go away, but I sure dont like it as much...I can understand the admins have become more ambitious and want to create a techy techy mean monster out of lovable TE....How I wish TE was its old self...we used to have such a nice and friendly community....now its just a conroe/nvidia/ATI/FS/GO poster :( ...

and please, I know theres FE, but its too casual and not the same.

@Bluffy

I def noticed your declining presence here.

and 9k??? not even 100 are regulars like us.

Ok, I hear that people want off topic stuff back again, so here are my suggestions:

1. No name calling in the main tech sections

2. Everything goes in the general section excluding obscene content, hate speech etc. Anyone is out of line, a simple section ban for a month with no prior warning is enough.

3. Bring the reviews and jokes back.

4. Exclude point 3 above from new posts etc by default (put it in the exclude section of everyone's search settings by deafault)

5. You can separate movie reviews from comp reviews.

6. No post counts for non-tech stuff

i for one am somewhat happy with the split between te and fe.. last time all i used to see when i clicked new posts were tons of threads in general talk , intro forums and others and very few tech related posts.. in short it was what i guess the admins want FE to be. i dunno if i'm in a minority or if there are ppl from both sides of the camp since only one sides doing all the talking lately :P

anyway te was started with the idea of creating a tech oriented site and not as an indian community so i guess members arent too happy with that they can let us know what their vision of te is and am sure someone will try to act on it.

edit: plus since when did removing off topic posts in a thread become overmoderation ? if anyone has any specific thoughts on our moderation please do post, we do need a reminder too if we get too heavy handed ;)

hmmm both you pple have valid points
i agree with kingkrool's post.. esp #4.. but dunno if it is practical:huh:

My perspective is little different here.

I posted my views on what was lacking here a while ago. And that thing was already on the staff's agenda i guess.

What i want to say is it needs a whole different level of commitment and dedication to survive as a popular tech site. A community and tech site are two totally different things.

If TE is to survive as a tech site it will need some major overhaul. Mainly in the portal and forum too.

Just having a forum which is dedicated to tech talk is not gona take TE anywhere.

You need dedicated reviews, tests, news, original articles, support from local and international industry and willingness of staff to actively participate in all this not just for now but over a very long period.

Out of 1000s of tech forums the reason why something like AT, XS, HF, Guru3d, Vrz, Beyond3d etc stand out and survive is this difference and dedication. And this applies to its member base too.

I dont know if our country is ready for this yet or not. And if we are getting enough international traffic or not is also a major issue.

And i dont know if we have enough members with that much dedication. Or a staff member who is willing to do this with some dedication over a time and not just start off and then die out.

It can be done but for that more radical changes will be needed.

THERE ARE SOME REALLY BIG GUNS OUT THERE WHEN IT COMES TO TECH SITES. IT WILL BE FUN TO TAKE THEM ON BUT IT WONT BE EASY OR IT WONT HAPPEN IN A MONTH OR TWO. AND LIKE IT OR NOT, WANT TO OR NOT , WE WILL BE COMPETING DIRECTLY WITH THEM.

As far as people talking about over moderation - aww comeon now dont be a baby :P

And mods can also be little lenient. Some OT is OK even in tech threads. Afterall IMHO showoff is nothing but OT :P And i dont mind it honestly.

I do believe in 1 thing though. I like to think big, imagine big and then do everything and anything to achieve that and go beyond. I really have high hopes from TE. Partly because its the only worthwhile indian community with enthusiast i have come across. I will do whatever it needs from my end to make this possible.

AND NO NEED TO QUOTE ANYONE. IF YOU WANA SAY SOMETHING YOURSELF HAVE GUYS TO SAY IT WITHOUT QUOTING ANYONE.

I quite agree with Funky here.

TE, as a sole Tech forum, should start Hardware Reviews, etc.
Only way to do that, is some how, slide some deals with Some Companies/Distris/etc..

If itll be a community, then itll survive on its own.

Agree with Funky and Ad1.

We need some guys dedicated to doing Tech Reviews and want some Original Articles.

The thing is most of them are busy with there college studies and extra activities related to there career that one hardly finds time to write some stuff. Atleast this is the case with me , earlier i had time so used to write articles but nowadays i hardly get time to be online.

The question is, where do you get the hardware and software from? I have heard this for ages (first on the "other" site and now here) - "we are going to talk to dealers/distributors/manufacturers etc."... it is not so easy.

I also agree with Funky but I also understand that it is quite hard to accomplish.....

Most of you guys have other jobs to do, studies to cope with...... until more money starts pouring into TE, I dont think that can happen. If you start paying people for hardware reviews, then I guess you will see some people dedicating themselves to all this....

And also, the spirit of TE (before partition) is gone :'( ...... but it can be brought back soon.....

IF ALL non-tech topics are allowed in General TAlk, then it is ok..... I know it is allowed now.

But initially when you partitioned TE, you guys were very strict abt that....no non-tech talk on TE !!

That scared a lot of people. Even now, after you have allowed it, people are hesitant to start topics for fear of offending the mods because initially, you guys were very strict and deleted threads very quickly....

I know coz I was scared of starting a Prison Break Season 2 thread on TE.... that is why when I finally started it, I gave a link to FE and told people to carry on discussions there....

It is like I am afraid to do things in my own house..... TE is the only community on the net I visit. I am not a member of any other..... Once I found TE, I even stopped going to techtree (yeah right !! like that is a comparison   )

So, I hope you guys understood what I am saying here...... dont be so rigid.... lighten up a bit. Even in tech sections if we go a bit OT, it is ok....let it be.... if something goes overboard, then it is time for you guys to step in.

I remember another example.....Adi's water cooling thread.... http://www.techenclave.com/forums/water-cooling-arriving-by-2nd-july-74408.html

I posted something which a lot of people found funny....and the discussion after that totally got deleted..... I mean show-off sections isnt really a proper tech category. I felt that was unnecessary.....

On a lighter note, I do miss old regulars like Masky, Bosky and the things that initially made me LOVE TE..... MAsky and his superb jokes, he and XT having their spamming competitions, and so many things...

Earlier when I joined, TE was so much funnier even in the tech sections..... it was really good fun to read the posts and threads.....everyone seemed to be having fun.... MAsky, Rave, Switch, Darky, hooligan, sunny, the whole group of you guys.... but now, it seems to be too serious.... but that cant be helped I guess.....people get busy with their lives and dont have enough time to spare for TE.....

@KK, It actually is quite easy. If you know how to go about it.

I managed to Slide a deal thru for V-Street.net, with Asus. We now get Hardware from them to Test. Already released a X6800ES and a 7950GX2 Review from there. I cant do anything with that Deal for TE, as the V-Street Management, wont like it. Plus, as a Business Manager of V-Street, I cant do such a thing.

Thing is, Asus, is getting quite a lot of Advertising, in the Gaming community with V-Street. We also Manage a Tournament called "WGT or World GameMaster Tournament".

In that way, TE, has to show, what they can do for the Company.

TE cant survive like this, Honestly. Its become quite a bit dull.

People expect, stuff like VR-Zone/AT/XS. Etc.

People like, Funky/Darky, etc, are playing around with Hardware, etc.

The SuperPI Contest, Interested so many people, didnt it? :).

Like that now we can have the SuperPrime Contest.

I think SuperPrime, is a great thing for TE. I know yall are integrating it, into TE. Which is a good thing. Hope Karan gets something in return for all his effort. :ohyeah:

More stuff like VR-Zone, atleast a review or 2 a Week. More crazy projects.

TE Sponsoring Harware to Members, to test. You need to take it up a notch.

TE has to come upto the Mark. Or it will just die out like any other Forum.

interesting ... what we also need is more forum involvement .. foreign people coming here .. do you see hundreds of topics being posted everyday at other forums? we need that kind of participation ..
Dip , no mods directly but the overall moderation needs some looking into ;) . yea portal is no good now .. we need a couple of guys who can post news daily etc.( look at TechIMO.com - Tech "In My Opinion": The PC Hardware enthusiast community where your opinion counts. portal :D ) but first , other people should join us and make it a worthwhile place! I can easily name the regulars which tells you only one thing , not many "active" members . I pretty much agree with other people posts .. Hardware reviews ? yeah thats a great idea I think . I'm going to be a Premium Member soon but the spirit of TE has gone down so I'm thinking if I shd do it or not!

These are good suggestions and while TE is still a great place to hang around, it sounds like TE management needs to really think about the future of TE both as a tech and community site. There's no one way to solving an issue, so let's hope more feedback pours in here from members.

My recommendation would be to pull some kind of steering committee together to determine which direction TE should be headed... the team/commitee should be comprised of mods and members who could draw up a plan, get buy in from the community on general direction and start executing. Anyway, think about it Safin, admins, mods.

Hmm.......looks like we have two opposite views here. Bluff started this thread complaining about the partition and the outlook against non-tech talk on TE. (at least thats what I think he wanted to say). But then the thread got steered to how TE can be made into a world class tech site.
So I think it needs to be decided whether TE is a community or a Tech site. Don't see any reasons why it can't be both :P But if TE has to grow as a Tech site, I do feel the moderation should be even stricter. All non-tech related posts should be moved from the tech-threads. However, I feel that tech-related but OT posts might be allowed. This way, some threads can move on to other topics, and become more interesting. Later on, the thread can be split into two.
The show off section however, doesn't directly come under 'Tech', and hence, some OT posts there shouldn't be a problem, IMO.

P.S. Personally, I wouldn't like all OT posts to be deleted :ashamed: 80% of my reps are thru something funny I posted, which technically could be considered OT and not tech related :P

Hmm....interesting discussion going on here.

I would like to put forward my views here too.

Frankly speaking i was against the idea of jokes section and all from the beginning but majority of the staff voted in favour of it so it was implemented.

Also TE was meant to be a Tech forum and yes i agree, a lil bit of TP here n there is ok,every forum in the world has it.

But if anyone has observed, most of the posts and threads were about everything except Tech stuff.I was not too happy with that.TE was not meant to be a FUN FORUM.So think form both the sides, there are people who just wanna have fun,no issues with that BUT there are members who want clean tech stuff, accept it or not,TE's main motive was always to be a good Tech Forum. So i dont think there is anything wrong IF stern measures are taken to safeguard primary objectives.

I also agree that Mods can get a bit too harsh at times but then one can always PM the Mod or inform some other Staff members or else post a feedback. No issues with that, infact such a thing should exist.

ANd when it comes to articles and doing reviews...

Writing an article is easy, sourcing the hardware isnt easy.As mentioned by Aditya,V-Street got a deal going with Asus, good thing for them. But try to find out the main difference.V-Street is purely business venture,as i understand. This means Money is put into it.Accept it or not, money is needed. You guys think XS runs on its own ? NO there are members who keep it alive and trust me these guys have real deep pockets...

Not many know the history about TE here,i mean the details.Let me mention this once again,TE was started by a bunch of Enthusiasts,WITHOUT any financial backing, trust me, we shelled out money form our very own pockets.

We didnt even have money to pay for hosting and domain renewal.

Then we started google ads which did bring in some money but was just sufficient enough to meet the basic necessities.Once again we were left with no cash to introduce new features...

When we plan to start a concept like 'Premium Member' ,people who understand the real motive behind it,understood it and were game enough to pay for it.Some b**ched about it.

SO how exactly are we supposed to earn revenue ? We can hire professionals as reviewers too but where is the money ? We did it as a voluntary job but then again TE isnt what we do for our bread and butter.

Why would anyone work for us if we arent gonna pay him/her ?

So i guess many must have got my point.I may sound a bit stern here but i guess i have to be to put my point through.talking is much easy...If you really want TE to grow, are you ready to contribute ? Are you ready to do reviews ? write articles ?

THings arent so simple...

signing off....

Here is my take:
Honestly I am kinda lazy... but TE is da place on WEB dat makes me write/type a bit too much. I know some 650 odd posts mean nothing compared to some of da Gr8 ones I know.. :) but then I am busy with my store too. The single reason for being on TE I guess is I get to know most (Indian) Enthusiasts and feel at Home with them posting some good tech stuff. So I really doubt dat if anyone who loves it as much as I do will leave. As for what way TE goes???? Should be something better.... it may not be new, but we need to be present in our own way in the certain section of Online World.
Finance as well as Support from companies are different issues and I cant comment on it. But Reviews/Tests are not a BAD IDEA after all. I got a contact @ TEAM GROUP for sometime now (some TE guys know about this), if we decide on to something... I can check if they are game to help or not.

^^ Nice Suggestion there Harshal...Point noted. It would be great if something can be worked out with Team Group....

I think TE is better off as a community than as a site.

anyone with a big budget and the resources can come up with a site. but a community like TE cannot be made overnite:hap2:
