Mobo and cabinet have support for eSATA. I can use 1 drive and she can use 1 drive. We can plug it in whenever we use it.

But how to do it? Power source for SSD/HDD? And is there a SATA to eSATA cable available?

Keep the hdd inside, power it internally. Just get a long sata-2-esata cable, bring it outside the cabby and connect it the port on rear of mobo. (Or on front of cabby if feasible.) Otherwise, buy a hdd casing with esata.

Get two of those cables, preferably different colors.

OR if you want to this from the front side, each time going to the back, switching the cable will be a big hassle IMO, use this idea, but you will need to do a bit of cutting ;)

A better solution IMO, do this :

Get a eSATA ~ eSATA cable. Both sides same.

Get this too : Dual 7-Pin Port ESATA-SATA Cable Adapter (28cm) - Free Shipping - DealExtreme

Ensure that the SATA ports are connected to the 2 HDDs of your choice. Mark the eSATA ports on the outside with identification, so as to decide which HDD is whose.

Power to the HDDs will be given internally, however both the drives will always be ON, but thats a small price to pay for this functionality, IMO

Now connect one end of the eSATA cable to the port on the backside, and the other end to which port you want.

Hmm. Now eSATA supports only 3Gb/s. I am going for a 6Gb/s SSD. Corsair Force 3 series.

Decided to give her a separate system. :) No more confusions. She accepted to settle for a little lesser config!
