Hi,

I had gone searching for a HD4850 today and was shown both Palit and Sapphire GPU's. Was told that the Sapphire costs around 1 - 1.5K more.

Is it just because of the Brand or is there something else that causes this difference in price?

Also, is there any other Brand that I should be looking for?

Just the brand. Actually most 4850s are reference cards so get whatever is cheaper. Only reason you should be paying extra is if theres a better non-standard cooler on the card. Else skip the expensive one ;)

Ok. Thanks for the info.
BTW the Palit was quoted at 10.2K :(, I was hoping to get it somewhere around 9.5K but couldn't get it at a lower rate at Ritchie Street.

And Palit seems to have problems esp relating to the HD4850 and HD4870 series. Card develops artifacts after a period of usage due to bad mem chips.

GeCube, Sapphire, Asus etc uses some good memory chips onboard AFAIK.

Maybe thats one reason why they're li'l expensive. And +1 to sTALKEr's suggestion.

Local Warranty Zindabad. Period!! :|

the Palit non reference one has just 2 VRMs instead of 4 on the reference design that is the reason for most of the problem, read in some other forum.

The Sapphire is the better of all as OCclub said when OC'd it even exceeds the Sapphire Toxic version of the same card.

the next one would be asus, just because it is "asus" :)

u can ask Amarbir he has the sapphire for around 10.3k and me thinks it really worth with 3year warranty :)

I would like to get it from here but time is a prob (this rig has to be up by this weekend before I leave). :(

I guess I would have to go with the Palit from local for now then and keep my fingers crossed.

better spend 1k more and get a sapphire or Asus bro. would do good in the long run.

Hmmm.... may have to do that (hope its within budget).

Anyway does anyone know of any shops from where we can get these cards at reasonable prices in Chennai (Ritchie Street).

I know Rahul from ITwares can ship it in 2 days to your home

But i think u want it by saturday,

Check Mahavir Computer, near to the Nakoda plaza where Delta is

I have seen them display many brands of graphics cards like MSI and Sapphire and they offer good prices.

I mostly buy from Samta Infotech at KAJ Plaza, give me great prices...worth the try. He can source most products

I don't know about Palit availability, look around, u might find it

Yeah need by Saturday else would get from TE. :(

Thanks for the shop info, will check them out.
Avoiding the Palit due to the previously mentioned probs and am instead looking for Sapphire / GeCube / Asus now...

Went to Ritchie street today and was told that the Sapphire would take 15 days. :(

Palit and GeCube are available (1 day delay). As Palit is ruled out now was wondering about the GeCube. Anybody have one of these and faced any probs?

i had been using gecube cards last 4 yrs.they are quite good in terms of build quality,,,,,,no prob so far.oc is good...........so u can go for it.......i had gecube x1950xtx and a got a hd 4850 recently.....the brand is trustworthy

hey, all these are reference cards and built by a single manufacturing comp. in Taiwan...so it makes little difference what brand u r buying

Go for Gecube or Palit...or any brand. Check for warranty. Get one with atelast 2-3 years

am using Palit...running fine at 30C all the time.
