hi guys,
i was planning to buy an hd5770 for my rig
but i came across reports in various forums
that the ATI HD5770 cards are buggy and post greyscreen probs:(
and even incompatiblity with certain games like borderlands!

have these issues been resolved by ati yet?

i would love to hear from anyone who has been using an hd5770 for some time
that is are you satisfied with the card!!

p.s.
my system is as follows

Athlon II X4 635 2.9GHz
BIOSTAR TA785G3
Corsair 2*2GB DDR3 1333MHz C9
Cooler Master Elite 310
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB
LG 22x DVD
Dell S2009W(1600x900)
Corsair CX400

even i am planning to buy this card and ordered but it isint in stock in kolkata...? but in digit forum some say it had been resolved so its better not to hurry..just wait and watch,,,!!!!!!!!

If it's any consolation, I'm running HD5770 (Sapphire make, stock cooler) since last December. I use Catalyst profile to OC my card while gaming (900MHz GPU, 1425MHz Mem from the stock 850MHz GPU and 1200MHz Mem). Maybe I'm lucky, but I have never faced the gray screen issue or any noticeable anomaly with my card.

My only experience with gray screen of death on HD5000 series cards was on my friend's system, which had HD5670 card (again, Sapphire make). But a simple driver update solved that issue and it hasn't occurred ever since.

There was a talk that this GSOD issue was partly due to software and partly due to faulty memory chips on some of the units. So unless the card you buying has very old import date, I don't think there should be any concern regarding the same. :)

HD5770 users should be fine. There is nothing major out their, which advocates the batch as faulty. Stick to 10.5 build drivers.

^ Actually, 10.7 are great. I had few small issues with 10.6 in Burnout Paradise and occasional micro-stuttering in all other games, but those seem to be fixed in 10.7. Overall performance also seems much stable under OC and 2D performance has jumped to 1731 points from 1559 points (on 10.6).

i've heard of severe incompatibility issues with some games like borderlands

where the wall turned solid red!!!

i'll post the screenshot of the game(pulled from internet) later

i just want to know whether i am doing a mistake going for 5770

Of course experience speaks better than reading reviews...! Nice that you have it stable on 10.7s. It is totally broken for Xfire though on 10.7, and people noticed issues on SC 2 with this build.

Dude.... I can vouch for HD 5770 ... am using XFX HD5770 & I am so glad that I spent 9.1k for this little monster. I have played & playing games like GTA IV, GTA IV: EFLC, Fifa 10, PES 2010, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands, Split Second, Blur, Assassin's Creed 2, Singularity, Mass Effect 2. None of these Games had any problem with the HD 5770. I've heard from few people suggesting to avoid XFX & rather go for Sapphire or other brand but XFX holds high reputation & after-sales service related problems are location dependent, but it's not a problem in Kolkata.

hey i have used a sapphire 5770 for sometime some months back - that time i dint have any bugs

5770 is a good card

so you are saying that if i stick with 10.5 build catalyst drivers
i can play BORDERLANDS and any game without trouble and GSOD!!!
doesnt ati drivers come WHQL certified like nvidia ones??

^^

Yes they come WHQL certified.

Look, I cannot guarantee 'all' games will run fine. Fine can mean something for you, and something else for me. Overall, it is a decent accelerator and can run games decent till 1920 x 1080. If you want 100% assurance that all games will run on the GPU -- not sure what to say.

If you have the cash, get this card. It is good. Best of luck.

hi funkysourav

i had bought my xfx hd 5770 during last week of june 10.and believe me the card is just fine. i have duel boot system with xp and windows 7 with driver 10.6 on xp and 10.7 on win7 and till now i have not faced single problem with card though i have not played many games with this card but no problem yet.

ATI cards are not buggy but most of the time their drivers could be.:P
their recently released 10.7 have performance improvements and issues with games like "Borderlands"
you can check that here..
http://www2.ati.com/relnotes/catalyst_107_release_notes.pdf

I am also using ATI Radeon MSI Hawk 5770 HD. No issues, infact it one gem of a card! It runs so cool and performs great! :)

I don't understand how one particular card can be buggy regarding one particular game? I mean if HD5000 series has a problem in one particular game I can understand, for example NFS Undercover has performance issues overall and most specially on ATi cards, but this problem occurs on all ATi cards not just one particular card like 5770 or 5670. Or a game could have problem with one particular release of a driver. How can one particular card can be buggy?

So in a nutshell, if that game matters so much to you and it has known issues with ATi cards... go for nVidia, which thankfully has a card that one can recommend, GTX460.

^^
no no its not like that
i am getting the hd5770 hawk :yaaayyy: this week:clap:
i thought maybe ati has problems with many games
and increasingly frightening number of developers leaning towards NVIDIA and all!!

but then i realised though the gtx460 and gts 450(unreleased) maybe a good option
its relatively new card
and so i decided to cut the crap and go for the tested and tried HD5770 hawk!!!! :D

i dont care much about the difference in performance(few fps and physx maybe):cool2:
(hd5770 is enough to run all games in full glory at my 1600x900 display i think)

(hope not to see many physx dependant games in future:@)
does physx play an important role in today's game experience?

i like action rpg games like fallout 3 and borderlands:(
i just hope i can find some replacement game for borderlands!!:(

p.s.
i've heard that the catalyst 10.5 has no problem with borderlands;)
hope its true!!:hap2:

Basically end of the day 99% of the games will run on the accelerator. You might face a game (one fine day) -- which just might refuse to work on the system. There are always umpteen work arounds for this, cause it is highly probably that others too would be facing similar issues. For example BC2 just refused to work on my system after the last patch. Result: Uninstalled it, end of story. But this fell in that 1% category --- for me...!

Catalyst 10.5 is fine, so is 10.7. iGo, has tested it for stability and decent performance. Go ahead. Enjoy and game hard. :)

i just hope the issues dont crop up when i'm in the middle of a game thats all!!!
i have read rave reviews about Borderlands
i hope i will find some workaround!! :ohyeah:
i had the option to go for a full hd samsung monitor
but i refused solely for the reason that i wanted every game to run at full details at native resolution!:)
also 22" seemed a bit too big for my comfort!!:ashamed:
btw
does physx bring some serious eyecandy or is it just plain crap which overtaxes the gpu for nothing?
