^^ Get any credit card but always spend within your limit and always pay your dues fully before the due date and you'll not be in any trouble from their side. If you can't pay in full due to any unforeseen reason convert the payment into EMI - you'll have to pay heavy interest , so do it only in case of emergency.

^^

For that matter, EMI interest, Axis charges like 1%.. diminishing or something. whats the rate for others? Other users can pitch in.

^^ I don't pay a dime for either of my credit cards (HSBC Gold, SBI). Recently HSBC was offering me a free upgrade to HSBC Platinum card. It all depends on how you get them. Most corporate offers from banks would get you a life time free card. Outside that, its up to your luck. If you apply directly for a card, whether you are even issued a card is not assured.

Actually this is also something like that.

No annual fees and stuff and part of corporate offer.

I have 2 HDFC Platinum cards..

I did not face any problems with them.

But I can't see my statement or transactions on their website. I can see just the total spending on my cards (Total limit - remaining credit limit).

I can check all transactions made, to enabled it I went through horrible customer care service, all new jokers at CC gives NEW SUGGESTION every time to enabled it. I leave it to view online transaction (HDFC Credit Card customer care means Customers need to care them  ) & one fine morning come to know that I can login to my account using old login & password.

HDFC need to employed WELL TRAINED person for CC Dept.. :(

Excluding above NO PAIN so far :)

Any suggestions for a Credit Card for a 1st timer? I have an account with ICICI and was looking at their CCs and it seems they offers CC against FD which I suppose isnt good.

Any suggestions?

If you are looking at CC as a tool for conveniency : its very good.

If you are looking at CC as a quick remedy for loan : Its ver very bad.

If you have long standing relations one particular bank, you will most probably get a CC free for life with spending limits decided by their calculations and your account average balance ( I dont know how they calculate this).

Go and meet your banker in person at the branch and he will be more than happy to help you out as CC forms and customers are good incentives for them.

Now a days we dont find CC offers much because of "Do Not Disturb", if you want to go for CC from other banks you have to lift your phone number out of DND registry and you will have all the CC in this world.

This is what I want the CC to be as a tool of convenience where others means such debitcard/netbanking are not accepted:P

I have a salary account with ICICI but opened only recently and I always dont keep much in that account :P would that be an issue:S

I was looking to get a CC for myself. Everyone in my house has an Amex which is excellent, but is not very widely accepted in India, specially online. Any recommendations please? I'm leaning towards HDFC or Citibank since both have EMI facility on ebay. I'm personally not too keen on ICICI.

Has anyone heard of Standard Chartered titanium value card. I have copy pasted info from the site below and I think its a great deal, just wanted to hear the feedback of TE members before going for this card.

5% Cashback on Petrol across ALL petrol pumps

(2.5% surcharge reversal + 2.5% cashback on transaction amount) be it BPCL, IOC, HPCL or Reliance. Drive More

5% Cashback on all Telecom payments including phone bills

Across ALL service providers be it Vodafone, Airtel, MTNL , Reliance, BSNL or TATA Indicomm. Talk More.

5% Cashback on all Utility bill-payments

Like electricity/gas/water payments. Save More.

SC is not such a great bank to deal with, id recommend against it but these %s seem quite lucrative, if i were you id go for HDFC/ICICI/Citibank CC :)

I had this Standard Chartered Titanium card for around two years. It was one of best value cards. Go for it if you get one. Also, general rules for keeping the credit card hold true for Standard Chartered as well. Fellow members have already suggested these...

Get a credit card if you are not prone to overspending. The HDFC card is anyway valid for only 3 years after which they will offer to renew to a better option and more credit limit.

If you pay the bills on time consistently, you will have a good credit history which is useful when you apply for any kind loan with any bank/organization. This credit history is centralised and all your cards/loans history is available to the participating banks/organisations.

Welcome to CIBIL

Final word, if you are prone to over spending beyond your means, do not go for any credit card. If you are one of those who are decent when it comes to managing how you spend your money, a credit card is a fantastic asset to have.

The person handling your companies relations with bank may help you out, on his / her reco the banker may issue a card to you. Usually salary accounts are rated on drawing power at the end of the month :D

I am using HDFC card past 5 years and HSBC past 3 years and never had any issue....Infact HDFC upgraded the card to Platinum and HSBC to titanium
