Won't ants or other bugs (like that silver thing) and moisture eat or destroy the notes? If you're going to use the money really soon in 2-3 months, then its okay to store. If you're going to keep it in a safe for years then the notes will get damp or get fungus or get stained by rust coming from the iron box.

Breaking bad dude...

Seriously, i think mothballs would take care of bugs. Moisture, keep them on sheets of paper lining the inside of the safe maybe?

As if the uncivilized overnight demonetization did not put the people through enough trouble, now banks are using this excuse to extract more money from the people.

HDFC especially has been expanding rapidly over the past two years and is trying every method to make customers pay for their expansion. The next time you get a call for loan/investment plan/credit card, just make a note of which bank is trying to sell you that product. More than 50% of the time, it will be HDFC. I think that they've even displaced Standard Chartered.

ICICI, the less said about them the better. From not even having a customer care email and forcing their customers to ask specific questions only in their customer care query form to forcing their grid based security nonsense on their customers debit cards, I would be surprised if they did not follow suit.

Finally, all these moves will only serve to harass tax paying citizens when they face the requirement to withdraw/deposit beyond the specified limit which is exactly what banks want (just like late charges etc. on your credit card) to make more money out of you.

Do you not feel that you are forced to carry your ICICI debit card wherever you go? Because I for one have 5-6 debit cards from multiple banks and a credit card also. But I only carry a Citibank debit card in my wallet.

If I attempt to make any net banking payment in for example my office via ICICI Bank and I don't have their card, I cannot make the payment (even though I know my internet banking credentials and have my mobile phone with me to receive a "one time password") unless I enter three grid numbers printed on the back of my debit card that I would not have with me.

So for me, all this grid based security just gets in the way. I've even asked them to disable grid based authentication for me and just give me an ordinary debit card (i.e. without grid numbers) as I don't want it but they say that they can't do that.

This is painful. But usually i don't use ICICI card for Online purchases, So may be i didn't feel the pinch. ICICI card is used mostly for POS purchases,. You have a valid point

What was their response?

They refused to replace my grid based card with a non grid based card saying that it's not possible. The bank official claimed that all ICICI debit cards are grid based cards(though I did not get the feeling that he was being completely honest).

If you use phone app to do transaction then grid based security don't come up. Transaction directly goes through.

Grid card is just another form of 2FA, with this not being reliant on phones, but cannot be changed easily.

My bank has it for internet banking transactions, its not bad, but maybe for card transactions, its too much. However, I am fine with the security measures put in place, considering that HDFC has none whatsoever.

I usually use SBI debit card for Paying at petrol pumps. There were no charges earlier. Now have started charging Surcharge.

I am going in to Pure Cash Dealing mode from now on. Cashless my foot.

Could you share the exact billing done on the card? In my case, I paid for 1K with my AMEX, got 0.75% cashback, plus 3% cashback, plus should get the 2.5% waiver when it gets charged...

If the GoI wants to promote cashless, and RuPAY, they should give the 0.75+waiver on rupay only....
