I recently got my Xigmatek S1283 CPU cooler and was wondering how to apply Arctic MX-2 to it. As the surface is like this

should I apply the 3 lines of mx-2 on the Copper heatpipes or should I just apply it the normal way i.e. a small amount on the centre.

Also a small amount of Stock goop came with the heatsink should I apply that or is MX-2 preferable.

Thanks

Well I'd say put soem MX2 on the heatsink base, spread it out using a razor blade, only enuf MX2 to fill the gaps b/w the pipes. later go for big-pea in the centre method on the processor.

or, a bigger pea on processor would be even better

check Xigmatek web site they may have tips for instalation.

i read it once ,,,,,
APPLY PASTE ON HEAT SINK BASE ,make sure to fill gaps between the heat pipes , then apply paste on proccy n u rdone for it.....just fix it taking care no any bubble remains (forms) .
some web sites clain that design of base as this heat sink has (direct heat pipe exposure)is more efficient than plain base plate ones.......n also it reduces companys fabrigation cost.

I have tried everything. And best contact is achieved by this method.

Draw 2 lines of thermal compound where i have marked them in red and slap it on. Achieved perfect square pattern on the IHS of the CPU covering everything.
