I am looking for a good Headset for Gaming and Movies. Since Gaming is the main purpose, I would prefer to have 5.1 support. Max budget is 3k.

1. Zalman Theatre 6 5.1 Headset

I could not find it locally. I mailed Mediatech twice, but they do not respond. The best price I can see online on sify, rediff and fabmall is Rs 2750 + shipping. If the price is correct, This would be my first choice

2. Gainward SoundXplosion 5.1

Cost is 2450/- But I heard that its not as good as the Zalman

3. Sony MDR-XD 300

Cost around 3000/-. But its stretching the budget to the max and I am some what skeptical about spending 3k on Stereo Headphones.

4. Sony MDR-XD 200

Cost is 1450/- But dont know how it fares

5. Philips HP805

Cost is 1200/-. I would prefer this if I have to go for stereo.

6. Logitech Precision PC Gaming Headset

Cost is 1700/- But dont know much about this.

Are the prices of the 5.1 Headphones correct? I could not source any of these locally. So I have to buy online. which would be a good online mall for this kind of stuff. Prices on Fabmall seem a bit ok. But is it reliable?

Youd be better off with a Sennheiser PC-150 or PC-160.. Wipes out any of these.

Even the Zalmans with the 5.1, arent as good as the 150/160's (which are Stereo)

I have the PC-160s, and they ROCK. The surround effect is so crazy.

What is the price and where can I get them.

Ok, I found the 150's on thedepot.com. Damn, they are way too costly for me. I would rather get the Zalman, Gainward SoundXplosion or the Philips 805 than spend more than 5k on these headphones. If stereo phones are better then Plz suggest something in the sub 3k Range.

PC-150 were for 3.5k last I checked.

Ask "Anish".. .He had got info on where to get em from.

I got mine from abroad. So, I dunno about here :P.

Where the hell did itdepot get those ridiculous sennheiser prices from :S. HD650 for 26k... are they out of their mind or what :P. It sells for 350$ in the US :P.

Logitech pc gaming headset is okay for games alone. Not good for music or movie watching
Check out the link below . May help you decide -

5.1 Headsets comparative test (page 1: Introduction) - BeHardware

I had checked that review already. But I want to know whether the online prices I have mentioned are reasonable or not. I am still inclined towards the Gainward SoundXplosion or the Zalman as they have 5.1 support. If I gave to go for a stereo, I would go for the Philips HP 805 as they seem to be regarded as the best headphones under 3k inspite of the price. Also is Fabmall, sify or rediff shopping reliable.

MDR XD 100 is 1000K and is damn good .

there are better products . they also will cost more . but the bottom line is

MDR XD 100 is a good buy . nice headphones to last you a long time or till the time the ridiculously priced ones are priced nicely to suit u .

I saw these at a Sony Exclusive in Hyd, but did not get them as I thougt that they would not be as good as Philips HP 805. Which would be better. How about the XD200?

Whats the best stereo Headphones for gaming and Movies I can buy for 2k.

How good are the Cyber Acoustic ACM 900 series available on IndMall.

What about the Altec Lansing AHP712i. Are these worth the price they come at.

The sub 3k Sennheiser's look like they are about ready to snap...:hap5: (especially the plastic headbands)

the only difference i saw in teh mdr xd 200 is that the contacts are gold plated and its a single side corded headphones . other than that there is no other visible difference .

i can tell you for a fact that the mdr 100 features great noise cancelling and is comfortable and sounds really well. mind you these are studio quality headsets .

so going by legend . mdr xd 200 will be awsome as well i guess .

hey lord_nemesis,
Gainward sound xplosion is 1650/- and zalman 5.1 is 1800/- at lamington road.
these two headsets are only for gaming and movies, not music.
Go for philips hp805 for music only.

I do not listen to music or songs...:hap5: The last time I played an mp3 song on my PC must be more than 8 months back. Most of my time is spent on gaming or watching English movies and thats why I wanted to go for a 5.1 Headset rather than a stereo. If I ever get the urge to play a song, I use the Speakers (Already have Altec Lansing 251).

I cannot use the speakers for games b'cause our house owners lives in adjecent portion and they would be panicked with the sounds...:ohyeah: Also I game late into the night (some times upto 3.30 in the morning) and hence have to use headphones. I am currently on Intex headphones (the best that I could get here in the nearby computer store) and they sound so bad that they make me feel that my Audigy 2 ZS is going to waste.

But since most people here are saying that currently available 5.1 sets are not so good, I am ready to settle for a stereo set for now.

My Final choices for are

1. Sony XD100 - 1050/-
2. Philips HP 805 - 1195/-
3. Sony XD200 - 1490/-
4. Some other Good Headset
(In the same range, preferably with a Mic if possible)

My priorities

Gaming: Very High
Movies : High
Music : Very Low
Comfort: Very High (For long Hours of game play)

C'mon friends... give me a last opinion. My fingers are Itching :ohyeah: to make the purchase. I will make the purchase tomorrow based on your recommendations.

its gotta be a final choice b/w the xd200 n the philips805

i heard both the sets and i would swear by the sony but then according to the principles of chaos theory, philips r better...so better have a demo on both of em decide.
