I hav an Esteem VXi 2004 model and have decided to change the headlamp as the I can barely see anything now on the stock ones after putting the tint.

I asked another friend for the same, and he suggested Philps rally 130/100 + lucas relay. I didn't have the time to ask him but..

- what does 130/100 mean

- what is a relay and why is it req ?

- he had also suggested that I could go for sumthing more expensive which doesn't require a relay for 2k.

as for the fog lamp, does one get a pair of the entire thing or just bulbs?

130/100 are illegal for road car use and will definitely blind other drivers in both the high and dipper positions, even if aligned correctly. They're the kind teenybopper drivers with too much of daddy's money buy, so that they can show off and have some cheap thrills by causing discomfort to others. You'll also need new relays and if you use the lights a lot, a new alternator. I used to run 100/80 for a while (a long time ago) but took them off as they were too bright.

The numbers are essentially indicative of the high beam and dipper wattage, and since the standard headlamps are 60/something (no exact numbers), the switching relays (that turn the thing on and off) need to be changed as they can't handle that kind of load.

The lower wattage projector lamps are a better bet but they have to be properly installed. They'll give you decent light without being offensive to other drivers.

well relay is used since ur cars existing OEM wires may not be able to handle the high current,so when u put a relay it will take power directly from the battery and give it to the bulb.so when u press the light switch it activates the relay.
well its always safe to use relay even HID which consumes less power requires a relay even though it might have a ballast.

well i am mot sure why they call 130/100 i know its the wattage rating but i think since H4 bulbs have dual filament i.e low and high beams they are the rating of each filament in watts.
in fog lamps i have seen both but i doubt reputed companies sell individualy like bulbs and reflectors seperate.

130/100 might be a bit of overkill. 100/90 might be a bit more normal, but still illegal.

you can defintely get bulbs seperate. You cant buy a new HL assembly every time a bulb blows :S the assy costs a few k while a bulb costs a few hundred

PS: another option would be to get 65W higher brightness bulbs like the philips xtreme power and osram nightbreaker. they cost about 1k, have high brightness, use 65W , are 100% legal, but they tend to have a shorter life

PS: projectors are damn expensive. just a conversion kit alone will cost 7k+. but yes, they are the bes option :)

^^ +!

Btw , a normal conversion kit wont cost more then 5-6 kz...

using the Philips Crystal Vision for like an year now...no problems at all..

Philips Automotive Lighting: CrystalVision Ultra range

they are the best option in the budget :)

I am upgrading to Projectors in a few weeks...thinking whether to go for bi-xenons or the single beam...

Firstly thnx to all for ur recommendations.

I forgot to post above, my total lighting(headlamp + foglamp) budget is Rs 2500.00

Are 65W philips xtreme power and Osram nightbreaker better than philips rally 100/90 in terms of brightness... and they cost ~1k? Would they need a relay?

and how much would philips rally 100/90 cost?

How would you rate Philips Crystal Vision in contrast to Philips rally, Philips xtreme power and Osram nightbreaker. Also how much does it cost and does it need a relay?

only the rallye ( non 65W) bulbs need a relay.

the philips visionplus/crystal/diamond/xtreme vision/osram nightbreaker all run from the stock 65W supply. they'll cost anywhere between 900~1.5k for a pair of bulbs. Stick to rallyes/Xtreme vison/Vision plus/nightbreaker if you want more brightness, the others are just cosmetic upgrades ( blue -white beam)

their comparitive performance - it depends on the car you have. different bulbs have different beam spreads, and consquently will work differently in different cars
