Hi guys,

My brother is looking for headphones around the 8-10k mark. His main requirements are that it should be comfortable to wear for longer periods and look stylish. He will be using it with a Macbook Pro mostly to watch movies and tv shows. Music only occasionally.

I've suggested the Audio-Technica ATH-AD700 and the Sennheiser HD558. Are there any other brands i should suggest? He was looking for something a bit more stylish...

Go for Ad700 ,it is very well suited for long wearing hours and also movies since it has decent sounstage which helps in sorround sound .These are the best open cans in the budget

If you are looking for a closed cans then you can also look for M50 which also has an added bass for that rumble in movies :)

Cool, thanks for that. Have added it along with Philips Citiscape Uptown headphones. Keep the recommendations coming guys. Thanks for all the help!

Repped all of you

I think the M50 is the best outta all the suggestions made above since i've owned them for a very long time and they are very comfy. I also feel Grado Sr225i and the AD700 are very good if your looking into open backed headphones which offer a wider soundstage and a more detailed sound.
I have watched countless movies on my macbook pro with the Grados and they are very very good sounding although they do get a little painful after 4-5hours.
I would've recommended even the Sennheiser HD25-1 II but they need an amp to shine and the macbook pro won't be able to drive them properly.

I read quiet a few reviews about denon d1100 , its supposed to have good bass , awesome highs , okish mids and good lows . Anyone personally used those headphones ?? , it retails for 8990 on flipkart

Go for Denon d1100 ..

i would suggest you can skip M50 totally,i heard some reviews where they say d1100 has better sound signature then M50 and it has better bass.

For Rs 8990/- it's a solid price for those cans :)

@OP

It's all come to the sound signature your friend is looking for. HP's suggested here by many members are good but it all depends on the sound signature you are looking for.

Personally I feel the good Denons start from the D2000 onwards. Comparing the M50 and the D1100, the D1100 have a smaller soundstage and are not as fun sounding as the M50. The mids on the D1100 just seem congested while the mids on the M50 seem more recessed in comparison, making the D1100 sound more forward sounding. Making the D1100 sound a bit muffled and even muddy in some tracks.

Hmm , about the mids even i read about it on headfi , but what the head-fi people have to say is that after playing around with the eq a bit it gives around 80% performance of the d2000 , getting a d2000 from abroad is certainly worth it , cant find a stock denon d2000 avalaible for cheap anywhere in India :).

Just for my information bennysachdev , have you tried the d1100 or d1001 ? , your collection of headphones is really eargasmic :)

yes i saw it , but no warranty is a drawback for me plus it half markl modded , would like to listen to stock first :)
