^^ But they are a bit bass light. I have heard them. Exceptional comfort and soundstage but average bass at best.

Can't that aspect be improved with Xonar DG or any other sound card for that matter?

I too am looking for something similar albeit the headphones will be primarily used for watching HD content with occasional music jaunts. Say a 70:30 ratio spread of the same.
@dinjo, hope you don't mind me chipping in with a query on the thread as well.

Yup they are bass anemic but these are used by a lot of gamers worldwide which says it about itself.

By pairing it xonar DG it will get a little bass boost since DG has bassy signature.

If something is lacking then you can't really boost it without causing distortions and problems.

Now if something is excess you can (generally) reduce it with little loss.

I have tried bass boost and other stuff to help increase bass but IMO it really doesn't make a big difference.

Gamers can use whatever they wish. Heck people used to use the Xbox headsets (single channel) to play games so just because gamers use them doesn't make them great.

Well i mean to say that since DG has a bassy signature it will go well with Ad700, no way i am saying to increase bass with any equalizers or some other way.

Bass doesn't help that much in gaming you see, details comes with soundstage and overall clarity of the headphones.

^^ It doesn't ???

Well to each their own but I really like a good deep bass especially for certain games. To each their own I suppose.

Yup taht is what i felt especially while playing FPS games.

There is one other thing to consider as well which is open vs close headphones for gaming, open headphones generally gives more details as opposed to closed headphones which benefit a lot in gaming.
This is the main reason of Ad700 being a major success in gaming and not so great pair of headphones for listening to wide genres of music.

Brendon buddy ad700 is an open headphone. Its obvious it wont have bass. But for gaming you need soundstage and clarity as Nalin mentioned. For fps games you need positional sense which soundstage brings and not bass.

@gunnerwholelife - An open headphone by default does not mean it has no bass. There are plenty of open headphones with a good amount of bass like my Sennheiser HD650 my cheap Koss Portapro.

Many closed headphones have far better positional accuracy than an open headphone can convey. You might get soundstage width but positional accuracy may not match some of the better closed headphones.

Soundstage is too loose a word to use without quantifying aspects of it like width, height, depth, positional accuracy etc.

Does the AD700 excel at each of the above ?

since your requirement is just gaming.. so get a proper gaming headset
you'll get a proper detailed surround sound .. thats the requirement for FPS...
you can get decent 5.1 or 7.1 pairs in that budget
sorry for confusing you @dinjo.:p
