Hello People,

I am looking for headphones to connect to my PS3.Also i will use the headphones for movies from PC.So 100% movies+gaming.

. I am confused whether i should go for AD700 or should i go for the gaming headsets with 3.5mm pins that are find in flipkart like corsair and steelseries.

In head-fi no one seems to recommend corsair/steel series gaming headsets. Whats the catch?

Budjet:10000

Am confused for this purchase from last 20 days.

Regards

Please dont suggest turtlebeach or Sony official headsets. I feel they are not VFM.

There are 2 things you could do here -

1. Get a USB headset which is certified to be used with a PS3. Most USB headsets should be compatible with the console and the manufacturer might have listed the PS3 under the list of the supported hardware.

2. Get a regular pair of cans and plug it to the HDTV's audio out or headphones out. If you are plugging it to the audio out TRS jack, you may require amplification. You can opt for a basic headphone amplifier such as the FiiO E5.

The AD700 is an open-air pair and you might tend to disturb the people who are in your vicinity. The ATH-M50 will be an excellent alternative and works well with games, movies and music. I think availability could be an issue right now.

At this budget, you can easily accommodate the trotting ax pro 5.1 true surround sound headset for consoles. It is probably the best proven 5.1 headset out there.
It is like a high quality surround sound system in your ears.

But he will have to source that also from the US right

I have the Sennheiser RS160 wireless headphones connected to my TV and use them with my PS3. Works great. You should probably think of going the wireless way.

Thanks a lot for your input guys. I already have ATH M50. Somehow i feel the sound not wide as i expected a gaming headphone to be..A strict no for Wireless as i have very bad experience with wireless headphones.

May be i should make myself satisfied with M50 and save this money for some other purchase.

Are there any other alternatives in sennheisers?

onlystruggler Get the Sennheisers HD 558 or 598. I have the 558 and they are the best bet for someone looking for a balance between gaming and music. Perfect sound for music and very good positional audio for gaming in virtual surround mode. Stay away from the so called true 5.1's if stereo music is something that you'll listen to most of the time. 2 high quality drivers with a wide frequency range are any day better then 6 or 8 crappy drivers in the 5.1's.[/FONT]

From where did you source the converter

You need RCA female to 3.5mm female converter. You can get for as low as 20INR. I got from SP road bangalore. You can find the same in Ebay as well.

3.5MM Stereo Female Jack To 2RCA Female Adapter coupler -3.5 MM - 2RCA - 2Pieces | eBay

You need the above one.If you stay in east bangalore, lemme know. I could give one of this as giveaway as i have 5 of them.

I got my 558's @7800 from ebay after a 10% discount code with 2 years warranty. The same were retailing at 9000 in bangalore. If i am not wrong HD 598's were available for 13k. So on ebay you can definitely get cheaper.

PS: HD 558 and 598 use the same drivers. Only difference is the colour and slightly different materials used for build. There is a HD558 foam mod which turns them into almost 598's. Apparently sennheiser sticked a piece of damping foam inside the 558's to make them sound different then 598's. All you gotta do is remove this piece of foam and you'll have 558's which sound similar to 598's. Look it up :)

Oh i tght it was actually some converter like a card or something :)

When you are buying a high end headphone from Sennheiser like HD 598 etc please keep in mind that they wont function to their potential without a proper source. I am not too sure PS3 will be a good source to run the HD 598 , and speaking about using your PC again the onboard sound card will make it sound lifeless . So i would suggest you get a amp/dac for using with PC and PS3 ...... else buy a amp for PS3 use and buy a sound card like Xonar DX/Essence STX.

Definitely.infact stx is my next buy. Also I am buying fiio e11 today.

I want to finalise this ASAP.So final contenders are ad700 and <strike>595</strike> 558. I just realized 598s are out of my budget.

Going by Reviews AD700 and HD 595 have equal alternate praises , if you want to save few bucks go for the AD700 . I had it for 1 year awesome headphones , worked surprisingly well when used with the Headphone out of my TV itself while gaming on PS3 . Very good for music and movies as well with Asus Xonar DX .

Be aware that the 595 is the previous generation cans and has a design flaw - they tend to crack/break at the weak area - the point which allows the headset to be adjusted. Sennheiser has fixed this issue with the 558's and 598's. If 598's are out of your budget do look at the 558's. I auditioned both of them and couldn't find any difference whatsoever. They work pretty well with my xonar DG which is the cheapest soundcard available with a built in headphone amp :P. A friend has fillo e17 and it seriously blew me off when i listened to the 558's through it. My next purchase :)

Oh my bad, i typed it wrong. I meant 558 not 595. I have corrected it. Thanks for your inputs. However i am planing STx card. So no E17. BTW deos 558s need amping when in use with Cowon J3?
