That's a lie atleast to my ears

.
@OP as a bass head i am with D2000.
I have a D2000 half modded , was lazy to do the total mod even though i procured all the parts needed :ashamed: .I have lost interest in D2000 for some reason and gave away my amp( D4 Mamba),headphones ( D2000) and my mp3 player ( Sanasa Fuze ) to my brother who is in Hyderabad as of now.If you are going to travel to Hyderabad ,you can check them out or wait until i reach Bangalore in October

.
Wow you sound really over convinced that A headphone is the best for all bassheads out there. You should start marketing for Denon's - The best Basshead headphone ever!! Everything else is just a lie!!
And the mod you did on the D2000
REDUCES the bass and tightens it up.....doesn't make you a basshead now does it

. The stock A900's bass goes lower than the stock d2k, and doing the mod tightens it up even further. So I wouldn't recommend the mod to anyone unless they found the D2000 to be too bassy already, thus making him not a true basshead.
Hell I don't find the bass of the stock D5000 to be too bassy at all, and if i'm not mistaken the bass of the D2k and the D5k is almost similar in quantity or maybe the same, just that the d5k has a slight more sub-bass and less of mid-bass.

Give a look at the Beyer dt 770's and 990's, sony xb-700 and other sony basshead cans, Ultrasone 780's or even the akg 240's and sennheiser hd 25/2..

Good budget like that, your options are Sennheiser HD25-1 II, Audio Technica A900, Denon D2000, D5000 (if you can get a good used deal), Beyerdynamic DT880 / DT990 from what I can remember and your sound preference (non-analytical fun sounding).
Since you haven't mentioned whether you need it strictly for home usage or no i'm assuming this is a portable and home usage both setup cause your source is an ipod rather than a full desktop rig.
Outta the above mentioned, only the HD25-1 II is a truly portable one. The others, I wouldn't advice you to carry them around being heavier and less sturdy.....
Actually I did already recommend the Sennheiser HD-25 I II. I had initially tried them with the sflo2 and wasn't amazed considering their price. But after reading a lotta reviews, I decided to take the plunge on them and was rather impressed. I was also under the same impression that Senns are not really good with bass. But after hooking these up to the Xonar STx card...... OMG these babies are truely for bassheads. I actually am in love with them for hip hop, dance, club, house, trance and electronic music. Anything with emphasis on the beats.

Sennheiser / AKG are no way close to the bass head needs of mine atleast .According me Senn's $uck ( no offense to any one here ).
I don't blame you for thinking that way...the fuze/mamba, which you probably must've used to try these, can't drive them for nuts. They're 70ohms impedance with a pretty low sensitivity. So you prolly wouldn't get the bass. And thats the way with pretty much every high end Senns.
@OP If initially you don't get the kinda sub-bass you expected, your not driving them properly, so don't pass judgement without trying them with a good amp. And I certainly do not mean hippos
