Laptops Heads up: XPS M1330 issues with discrete graphics

Update: An engineer was over and replaced my board + gpu with another REV A04. He allowed me to replace the crappy thermal compound with some arctic silver and I've been running benchmarks the last hour. No crashes/issues yet but the XPS casing is turning really hot like it used to, so I'm not sure how long it will hold up. I'll be pushing it over the edge the next 24 hours and if something goes wrong again, I'll be getting a new XPS, which will probably go on sale.

^^Did u apply it on the GPU core?? Just curious; :P

BTW does the entire HS-HP combo cover the GPU core and the CPU core??

I've mentioned this when I opened the notebook before, same heatsink for CPU and GPU passing over NB. You can't apply thermal compound on the GPU core, it uses a thermal pad.

To quote the first comment on engadget: "I don't think we should be getting our tech news sources from The National Inquirer." :D

For one, notebooks with 8600M chips haven't been crapping out - can anyone confirm that HP was facing trouble with 8600M chips?

No doubt about 8400M chips because we've got over 4 pages talking about just that right here.

More than 48 hours later, I can say the M1330 is holding up just fine... it's been running continuously since Friday. I've run 3DM6 at least 5-6 times with different video drivers and will test some games this week to see if it gives up yet, but so far it seems solid.

All was well until last night, when the "nvlddmkm not responding" error popped up again. The last time it did, my XPS died within 2 weeks. I've sent them an email and will call them Monday, let's see what happens.

Best of luck mate !
And my guess is u'll be getting a new 1330.

BTW i've got one 1330 brought around second week of april and we game on it extensively but no problem till now although i once dropped it in metro and so it has developed a bump so who knows this problem mi8 creep in very soon as soon as u get ur replacement :ohyeah:
