Hello,
I have BSNL Broadband modem UTStarCom 300 R2U which is getting hot mostof the time. I want to attach an heatsink (w/o fan) to the PCB. If anybody knows how to do this, and what kind of heatsink I need to buy from where, let me know.
regards,
Anand

ive seen CPU, GPU even mobo heatsinks....but modem heatsinks.....ahan i dont think so

i have a mtnl d-link modem which heats up a lot.....dont worry....i use it for hours n hours and it has been 4-5 years of usage....and its still alive

Wow man....i have seen some hardcore guys but you my friend have walked away with the cake, the baker, bakery and the bakers daughter.

Next we will have people voltmodding fridges and AC's and soon there will be a huge market for overclocked and watercooled vacum cleaners.....

Just kidding, but I dont think a HS is required for a modem...

Strap a 120MM fan to it

I tried it once. But it didn't help with the freq disconnection problem I had/have.

well the thread is about heating issues. your disconnection could be due to your phone line.

+1... Check your phone lines & ask your ISP to check line from your DP to your house...

@OP... Modem heating does not have much effect in short run but if you insist on a cooler Modem then a keeping it in front of a fan is a good & clean option...

I am looking for a heatsink which will not consume power. Will try to get some nice piece from an Aluminium fabricator :-) I keep the modem on for 10-12 hrs per day.

@mav2000, nice reply. You got the imagination..... yes. In future, there will be heatsink for heatsink....

Anand I use the Beetel 220BX 24X7 and that too in summers with room temprature close to 40 degrees,(no one uses that room) Nothing happened to it yet(since 2006)..

Dont worry I dont think that you need cooling for your modem.

Get one from Electronic component shops. They have generic heatsinks. I got one for a ATI Rage PCI GFX card from Vegakit in Lamington Road for 20 Bux
