Heavy rains lashed Mumbai Saturday, which flooded the busy Milan subway, JJ flyover, Kurla and several parts of the city.

About 107 mm of rainfall was recorded in the past 24 hours.

Traffic on the road and rail system was affected. Local trains are running behind schedule.

The BMC has said its disaster management teams are working to free drains to let the water recede.

The weather office has forecast more rainfall throughout Saturday.

I just had to return from belapur station as trains are not going beyond vashi.. So tht means an unofficial holiday for me today..:P but yeah, wud advice others to stay at home if its not utterly important to venture out...most of those working may have a weekend off today(except for poor me..:( )..so njoy garam bhajiya n chai at home.. the rain gods r in mood to let go...take care!! :P

same here on western railway side! i waited at the station for an hour and half and only two trains had left for churchcgate.

seems theres water logging at bandra, malad, etc...

Absolutely awesome rains in Sion too.. though am at my dadar office now... :)

Had a gala time riding thru the rains frm sion to dadar via raheja hospital / tulsi pipe road.. all other roads are blocked !!

Super weather !!

With the sort of rain happening this side since last night, I daresay that the trains wont run. With the current situation of the skies, I think the rains might not stop until tomorrow.

Hopefully in time for our meet though:bleh:
Feel free to join in, if the weather is decent :P

bloody waste level water everywhere 26/7 repeating itself , if anyone is at work or something please donont leave , trains are already down

keep checking this thread for updates incase u dont have a tv

BMC is saying till 5 it shud pour like crazy, those who r stuck @ office kindly wait until then

^^ South Mumbai is a bit lesser, its been raining on and off, but really heavily.

Santacruz/Bandra/Andheri are the worst right now. Its been raining heavy non-stop since early morning, most areas are completely Flooded.

Great weather though! :D.

I was thinking of taking a walk @ Amarsons Garden :D (Unfortunately, it opens only after 4.30, So I hope its still heavily raining after that)..

Yeah, really heavy rains throughout. We had a new drainage system made here in my area but the fools who did it also threw lots of mud into the gutters which means water isn't passing through the drains like it should = even more waterlogging than before. Great job they did......

Rains are fine though. Weather is really cool, but lots and lots of waterlogging. In some areas the water from public toilets is getting mixed with the flood water....

Isn't it more than a little strange that this heavy rain started yesterday and yesterday was also the day when Die Hard 4.0 released in India? Maybe someone's trying to give us a message.....

Weather prediction in this country does not go beyond a cpl of days, so i wonder what makes them say that.

..or is it that doom sells well ;)
.has mumbai been getting more rain than usual since the last 10+ yrs for this time of the yr....any locals care to say.

Nope personal experince nuthin like 26 - 7 as its stopping for 30 mins and than again raining...it wasnt like that on 26/7 but prob of flooding is because today is high tide..and our baba adams time drainage(110 year old) is throwing all water back...i jus saw manhole popping up and water oozing out of it like a pipe has broken

That, is incorrect information. They are however advising ppl to not leave before 5 due to the high tide. Tonight being a full moon, the tide is higher than normal and thus causing the flooding. The rains have not been extraordinarily heavy like they were in the flooding incident. This is almost usual rainfall maybe a wee bit on the higher side. It is the mismanaged construction work and resurfacing of the roads across Mumbai which has gotten many drains flooded and resulted in a more waterlogged area. Basically, they didnt survey the regions properly and the contractors who were involved in the resurfacing of the roads didnt quite pay attention I guess.

Anyways, some news channel also flashed that the next 36 hrs would be like this. Until we get some info from the ever so predictable MET dept of heavy rainfall, in which case the sun would come out...like the last time:bleh:, its gonna rain tomorrow.
