Guys i have been using airtel since last 5-6 years and my bill have never crossed 1.5k

but today i called to check my bill and it was 10k.

I was like WTF!

but the airtel guys are saying that if its saying 10k, it must be.

I swear, i havent used the phone so much.

They say they cant see the details, they can only see the details when the bill is generated.

what should i do?

this is outrageous. Have been a loyal customer since such a long time and i get screwed this bad.

Many options:

1: Get the detailed bill by visiting their gallery

2: MNP - port your no. - highly unlikely in this case

3: Screw them by not paying up & get the new no.

They won't allow him to switch numbers if he has pending liabilities.

BTW, in case someone opts for option 3, doesn't pay and gets a new number on another operator, do you think Airtel (or some other company) will pursue legal action?

I got to know about this 1 hour ago and i have already switched off my phone.

Getting a new Vodafone number tomorrow.

After the bill is generated even if i say i did not use it.

they will be like, "sir, hamare system toh yehi show kar raha hai, means you have used it"

PS: mods. correct the typo in the title.

Seems unlikely. Even a case as lame as that would take 1-2 years to be decided in the primary court!! After appeals, it could extend to 3-4 years easily!

One time my friend did not pay up the bill, the case was similar to this.

He got a letter from vodafone for a date in the court. it was a court issue.

He had some relative working in voda so the matter was closed.

I dont want such hassles.

Well, I would be joining Airtel from next month :)

My advice would be to sort out the issue with them, u can contact them with there FB/Twitter account for faster response.

If there is a system error or Airtel's mistake, then it would be definitely rectified.

^^What id you sent mail to ?
1. Get a detailed bill and find which is the problem area due to which you have such a huge bill.
2. Once confirmed that they are in error, mail to their nodal officer (your circle) and CC all other area's nodal officers.
3. Also send mail to airtel presence and open complaints on various consumer forums. Mention your phone number there. Airtel for sure does take notice (but not necessarily action) when posted on those consumer forums.
4. After everything is sorted i suggest you change your number to prepaid one. In case you have corporate plan in postpaid, you will need to forgo that but IMO prepaid gives better control over what is billed.

It is shocking to see the ideas people are dishing out here. It is highly probable that it is some error on Airtel's bill generation. Just be patient and let the itemized bill be available. Ideally if you get your amount as a bill (sms/mail) on your airtel login you should be able to DL the PDF and have a look. Why such a panic, it is not that Airtel is going to send goons to your house. No point sending them mails, till your itemized bill is not viewable. Or go to a node and demand the print out. They usually do that.

Has your credit limit been breached..?

^^What you are saying is right but with companies like Failtel the actually deserve such things. And here as the OP said, airtel is refusing to bulge from their stand and saying that their billing is correct.

better wait and watch check with detail of bill once generated and then discuss with airtel. running away from it wont help. either its wrong billing or else thx to 3g. but I am surprized that they send unbilled usage msg everyday so how it suddenly gone to 10k. what is your credit limit ??? because ur unbilled cant be above ur credit limit.

Cant log to your account and check the usage there...

They even have this excel reports and pie charts to show which no. got the max no. of calls and where did your usage go to...

Yes, they definitely will. AFAIK, Only Reliance used to do that earlier, but Airtel has started as well.

I myself had an issue with them recently. I had applied for transferring my land line connection from Punjab to AP back in Jan. They told me that the Connection would be temporarily deactivated and they did too by the end of Jan, but when I had issues with the transfer, I applied for cancellation before I was given a connection at my new location. After pestering me to reconsider the disconnection, they decided it was no use and they fabricated a bill for 2.3k for the month of Feb starting from 4th. They claimed that I was using the connection in Chandigarh for the entire month of Feb. They were ready to send me legal notice over the amount. One of the their Call Center managers even threatened that if I don't pay the bill immediately, they would increase the bill to 6k. Unfortunately for them, it was clearly evident that the connection was deactivated and reactivated and that too on a date that I can prove that I have permanently moved to Hyderabad by them. They were trying to play poker with one card while I had many, not to mention the bluffs. I told them that I had enough evidence to rip them apart in a court. After some pestering and threatening and other tactics, it finally came to paying for 5 days for usage which according to them was unbilled. I paid the amount for that period even though it was not my fault that they didn't disconnect when informed so many days in advance.

Here's a tidbit. One of their guy's told me that they are trained to collect at least a little extra money from the customers when ever they want to discontinue. It doesn't matter what way.

Also make sure to record what ever calls you make to CC. Their internal systems are equipped enough for their executive to erase/modify any evidence (compliant tickets, call and billing records etc) at the slightest sign of trouble. This gives them the benefit of plausible deniability.

In earlier times when the Reliance CDMA numbers didn't come with SIM Cards, my dad had a connection. When he changed his handset, there was some error due to which his number couldn't be transferred to a new handset.

We had to change the handset anyhow as it was faulty and had no option but to get a new number. After a few months of having the new number, we received a bill for the old number for the past few months totaling to about 5k. We called up CC and explained but they were adamant.

We refused to pay the bill. Got a few calls from Reliance thereafter... We didn't budge and then the matter was closed. :P

It happened with me as well. When I terminated my prepaid connection they didn't return my security deposit and dillydallied the case for around two years.

I still remember, the mental agony of visiting their head office/galleries numerous times.. taking half day off to settle the issue.. wasting my time with CC executive by explaining them the situation every time I call them.

At last, I took a new postpaid connection.. and yes didn't pay the last outstanding amount which was around 5 * my initial security deposit.. they gave me few warnings, in return I forwarded them the email which I wrote to their Nodal officer about my issue..

No further response from them, matter closed.. Fully satisfied Airtel customer..

here the point is what is ur credit limit first of all and secondly they never sent u any unbilled usage msg or so.

My credit limit is 3300, they are supposed to notify me with a message at 80%, and then with a call at 90% of the credit limit.

When i asked them that why dint you notify me, first they couldnt give me an answer, then they said you must have used so much in one day.

that it surpassed the limit. WTF!
