Will this work? videogame.brando.com.hk -

As I read in many forums, using TV Tuner card with DScalar is one solution that works for most of the games. However the program itself is not compatible with all cards.

Please let me know if anyone has connected PS2/any other console to the monitor. If yes what max resolution does it support?

TIA :)

some times the VGA boxes dont support NTSC i think..not sure tho..read it when i was googling about this..

also the best monitor for PS2 is CRT and that too 17".....more over never seen a case where PS2 was hooked up with a LCD. arya do u have any articles or pictures of those...

Hey Ethan wats ur opinion?

I have connected my ps2 with my 15"crt and 19" widescreen lcd through my external tv tunner box. It works :) but the quality is not good. Color will be bleed and in LCD it will look like wash out and stretched,,in lcd, i can use the widescreen options presents in games like GUN and GTASA. I also get irritated every time i want to play games on ps2 i need unplug the vga from cpu and so on..I use AV and S-video cable but I dont see any difference in quality- may be i need a better quality Tv tunner box for that// the sharpness in 15" crt is better thn LCD,,however color reproduction is poor in both cases..you may go for a descent quality TV tunner to use with your CRT monitor..also remember most of the ps2 games are developed at a resolution of tv which is far lower than native resolution of a lcd monitor and lcd cant scale properly to that low resolution well-but a CRT can,,so my suggestion will be a 17" crt monitor..if you already have a lcd n u have to live with it//Dscaler is a like a SLR camera,,if you know it well it will be good- however i heard lot of lagging in Dscaler so i will not recommend that.also you need to switch on the pc while using the Dscaler..better buy a normal 21 tv(new or old) and enjoy..dont go for this mombo-jumbo.

i have checked those VGA boxes/upscaler and even planning to buy one from playasia.com.those boxes are costing around 3-7k,depending on the input/output options and there is no guaranty of after sale services. So I increased my budget and go for a TV where i will get guaranty, after sale, resale value and a dedicated device for viewing and playing.

you don't really need a tv tuner for this purpose. i directly connected my ps2 to my lcd monitor(dell 2407 HC) through composite.

ya the picture quality isn't that great and the game does look washed out.Although the image doesn't get stretched on my monitor.Dell 2407 does have decent scaling.

Trust me and get yourself any CRT-TV. I was looking into this for quite some time but the options available, cost about 3-4K. And these stupid contraptions dont support 480i. And most games for the PS2 are 480i (correct me if im wrong here). I was even looking into HDFURY, thats how desperate i was.
But alas i ended up buying a LCD-TV and problem solved =)

(plus i spent hell lot more than what i should have, but hey, life is short, spend foolishily)

Thanks guys. I have a 22" Dell. It has only analog and dvi inputs. I've been planning for the Dell 2408 but its too expensive.

The precious real estate close to the TV has been taken over by the wii and i wanted to play with the PS2 in my room. Anyways i'm moving out of the town in a month or two and will probably pick up a 21" tv for time being. I guess the TV tuner and these boxes are not worth the effort.

Good decision ARYA, I am sure you will not regretted//CRT TV ::After SONY,, I like the SAMSUNG UltraSLIM series starts at around 8k as I checked in samsung showroom. I bought SONY 21" for 10800 which has component input and I am getting original sony component from amazon through kmd which costing me 1700,,but man,, sony tv+ps2 is a real treat :),,waiting for the component cable from KMD
