Hi guys,

Did lotta googling could not find much review on edifier s550 , da5000pro .

So decided to create a thread and take your advise on the same.

Right now i have decided to look for a one in between these 3 s550 , DA5000pro , Logitech z5500 ,

These are the prices said by a dealer in my city s550 is 20.4k , da5000pro 11.5k and Logitech z5500 18k( he said he has to order frm elsewhere) i might get edifier for the cheaper price but logitech z5500 i m not pretty sure unless i order it online
Please help me decide which 1 to go for

I OWN ONE S550 AND XONAR DX.edifier s550 is better comparing with z5500 in terms of sound quality.but its really big in a small room.if you have hdmi out in your motherboard then also look onkyo hts 3300 also.
edifier s550 cost=21k, xonar dx =around 5k(because you need a good soundcard)
logitech z5500 comes with optical in and dts dolby decoding.but onkyo hts 3300 comes with hdmi input with dts hd master audio(bit rate 25mmps while dts only 768kbps) and dolby true hd-18mbps (dolby digital-400kbps)
think yourself

I already own a xonar dx ................. onkyo hts 3300 hmm wil have a look at it .

Any more suggestions from other guys .... comeon for iem there are many people to suggest but for Home theaters so few :) , i knw all audiophiles believe 15k Home theatres are waste for music :)

^^Do u already own an Onkyo 3300 or was it sentence structure error? Also, Z5500 is discontinued and the new model Z906 should be out soon.So,wait for reviews on the same.

The S550 price u were quoted is high,its around 15-17k AFAIK,close to that of Logitech.If u have any digital sources to connect to the speaker system, the S550 is a no go as it has only analog inputs.U will have to spend extra on a DAC for connecting those digital inputs.If u have only the PC as source,u can go for it.It may not be as loud as the Z5500,but sound quality is definitely better.

^^hehe,its alright mate.

So,ur priority is music?? If so, these surround setups are a strict no-go.U can build a decent stereo setup for the amount with a pair of bookshelf speakers and an Integrated amplifier.

Nope music is not the priority but yup they should sound good , if not awesome.. i usually gonna play games on it and movies so going by that is z5500 better or s550

loudness is not a concern as i wont crank it upto maximum as i live in a flat .......... clarity is more imp and sound effects of course

If you are looking for sound effects with big spatial dispersion then s550 and z5500 are not good.s550 and z5500 produces average sound stage.I strongly recommend onkyo hts 3300 or any other brand coming with av receiver.

well I have used Z5500-D and I totally dis-liked it. Never heard S550 but heard gud things about it. I don't know about Onkyo HTS3300

naa the room is a small one .. i am assuming thats what u mean by big spatial dispersion

If ur room is small, and u intend to use it for Games...don't even think about Onkyo 3300! it has a passive sub which never will be able to produce the kind of bass that you'd want wen playin games. Nothin can match the bass response of z5500. I had both, now, i use z 5500 as my main HT. Music sounds good (definitely not the best). Movies are great. Gaming is by far the best. :) My two cents for u :)

PS: I bought it from Lamington at 15K. where are u based out of. If u want i can share then number of the shop and u can ask from them :)

If you motherboard has hdmi out then consider a home theater and not crappy multi media speaker.if your room is small then you have to put small surround speakers for big sound stage.edifier s550 has big surround speakers so it can't produce wide sound field in a small room.

i cannot go beyond 18k(anoder dealer was ready to provide it for this price) for the same ... so it gonna be either s550 or z5500 , i m tilting a little towards s550 now hope i am moving in right direction . i saw a few videos of s550 and must say it sounded good , yea i know that cannot be used as a judgemental factor but there are not enuf reviews also :)

The S550 doesn't have digital inputs. So take that into account when you are spending 18k on the system.

zzzzz..... This is damn confusing :( , just like my Galaxy 3 and optimus one(just launched) and i ended up buying galaxy 3 , hope i dont do something similar over here...

What are the advantages of digital output , dvd players come wid analog connections right , afaik its the ps3 and xbox i wont be able to connect , so wil it be considerate if i buy a z5500 for digital connections , even if z5500 performs 70 percent of a s550 i m ready to go for it , the no of features it offers are pretty good.
Again i would like to ask is its a EOL product so wil it be worth spending on that

z5500 comes with dts and dolby digital decoding through digital inputs.but xonar dx has 192khz/24 bit analogue out.it can handle dts hd and dolby true hd through power dvd 10.s550 is better in quality but the center channel of s550 fails to produce treble(sound is not open)loudness of s550 is low comparing with z5500.

s550=bass(40hz-120hz) very good quality

z5500=bass(32hz-130hz) big boomy bass(good for gaming)

s550=big satelites(average soundstage)

z5500=small satelites(good soundstage in small room dont expect more)

please tell the size of your room.is it a square or rectangle.

i would say a rectangle wherein the the wall facing the computer is smaller and one adjacanet bigger.

Da5000 pro is amazing...little brother of S550 (both 85db SNR)

Da5000 pro -total 120 watts RMS nough for ur purpose

Z5500 is boomy..edifier bass is clear and tight..Quality :)
