Me looking to get a Dell Studio 14,and tried building a configuration which I intend to use for next 2-3years but by the time I build a temporary config my total shot to 55k excluding taxes:P

So needed some suggestions regarding cost cutting it down:ashamed:

My Chosen temp Config

Base: Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo Processor T8100 (2.1GHz/800MHz FSB/3MB Cache)
I have three choices in this,
T6400 (2.0GHz, 2MB Cache, 800 MHz FSB) [Default]
T6600 (2.2GHz, 2MB Cache, 800 MHz FSB) [+2.6k]
T8100 (2.1GHz/800MHz FSB/3MB Cache) [+4.2k]
I was confused between T6600 N T8100,but since I couldnot find anything related to T6600 so I went for T8100 which had 3mb cache, but it costs me 4k more:( ,so is T8100 better or would T6600 be fine:huh:
Operating System: Genuine Windows Vista(R) Home Premium 32 bit SP1 Edition (English)
I donot need Vista:@ because I had used it before & dont want it again,so Is there anyway by which I can ask Dell to remove Vista from the default config and instead ask them to install Linux or something else...because I gona anyways remove vista so y waste money on it:no:
Memory: 4GB ( 2 X 2048MB ) Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
Hard Drive: 320GB SATA Hard Drive
Video Card: 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450
Chose this over Graphics Media Accelerator X3100,just so that I can do some decent gaming, not a hardcore gamer though:P
Audio Solution: Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy ADVANCED HD Audio
Batteries: 9-cell Primary Battery
Dell Services: Datasafe Backup Service Dell Online Backup 2GB
I really dont know would I be ever this service from Dell, coz uploading 2gb online as backup I dont think so I wud:S ,so can this also be removed from the default config:huh:

And this is excluding shipping etc,so its definately gona shootup by 1-2k more. Will shipping to Navi Mumbai address cost less than shipping to my address in Mumbai?

Also I had heard that Dell does give discounts, while ordering online but I have no clue about how to get discounts,is it via just plain negotiating with them or some coupons etc??

Laptop n Dell Gurus please HELP Me out:)

You have to negotiate with them :)

I saw a studio 14 config in croma for around 44k. I think it was fully loaded with GPU and all :)

will have to check at croma:)

What about that Vista thing that I had asked before and also the Dell Backup n about Proccy:P

1. The T6400 should be sufficient for anything u can throw at this lappy.

2. No way to avoid vista. AFAIK, even N-series Inspiron 1525 lappys are not avl from dell anymore....in India at least.

3. The dell backup is a complimentary thing. If u dont want it, dont use it, but no discounts for that.

4. Also, shipping is free, taxes are on top of basic web pricing of course. And no octroi in Navi Mumbai, so cheaper to get it delivered there ;)

Check out prices at a couple f normal dealers for the same too n then negotiate with dell, PMing you contact f a good dell rep :)
