PC Peripherals Help : Erratic mouse pointer.

My cousin just asembled a PC. Config see :

Installed latest drivers, flashed latest BIOS. Using Win XP Pro (temp) now.

Everthing OK, stable. But sometimes the mouse pointer suddenly jumps to one corner of the screen. Only sometimes. Tried PS/2 & USB. Same prob.

Any idea why ? Faulty mouse ? Not installed any mouse driver.

yup, sounds like a classic case of skipping mouse. if its an el cheapo mouse, upgrade it. otherwise , replace.

But before that -

Sometimes the surface can confuse the sensor. try a level and textured flat surface, like the cover of a diary. Nothing shiny though

even a piece of A4 paper on a level surface will so

Umm is it a microsoft mouse ?

Either / both of these has rectified the prob :

1) Read this "I went back to the mouse properties and unchecked the box under pointer options that says, "Hide Pointer While Typing." That seems to have fixed the problem. You might want to try that first. ".

2) Removed the mouse pad, it was pretty old, surface uneven.
