HELP - Finalising my Rig < 40K

Guys I am back.... please bear with me.

After BD's dismal launch.... I am in a state of rigor-mortis :(

LOOKING AT INTEL i5

I have been looking at i5 seriously and I wish to lock my RIG before Diwali.

Doubts: Is it best to stick to DDR3 1333 MHz RAM for Intel i5 ?

The bottleneck on the i5 & i7 procs are the DDR 1066/1333 MHz. Now with DDR3 1600 & 1866 prices affordable for an 2 x 4GB kit. Whereas most mobos have upto 1600 & 2200(O.C)!!! Now Intel cautions "running equipment outside of their suggested guidelines violates their warranty". Have some guys out here on TE tried 1600 (PC3-12800) at 9-9-9-24 or lower cas for a period of 3-6 months. Across different forums I have seen that in the long term there are "stability issues".

COST FACTOR: For the i5-2500K [Rs 12K] + Asus P8Z68-V LE [Rs 9900] = Total 21900/-

AMD LLANO COST FACTOR: AMD A8-3850 - Rs 7250 and mobo ASUS F1A75-V Pro - Rs 8765 = Total Rs16045/-

DIFFERENCE = + Rs 5855 i5 over AMD

Now, suppose I take the saving of Rs5855 & add Rs 3145 and get the Sapphire HD 6850 for Rs9K - VIOLA WOULD THIS COMBO BEAT THE i5 & Z68 in performance.

or drop the Sapphire HD 6850 & go for an SSD ?

^^ Look Sire, here is what I will recommend --

Intel Core i5 2500 OR i7 2600 ~ 11000/- OR 15000/- AnandTech - Bench - CPU -- AMD A8-3850 vs. Intel Core i5 2500.

Intel DH-67 BL ~ 5200/-

Corsair XMS3 4GB x 2 ~ 3200/-

nVidia GTX 550 Ti ~ 7500/-

Corsair TXV2 650W ~ 5500/- Corsair TX650W ATX12V power supply | silentpcreview.com

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB ~ 2900/-

AMD Llano processors are not competitive core-to-core as the older K8 architecture baggage has been carried on, so Intel Sandy-Bridge any-day for your usage. As well because you are an animator, nVidia cards will be better for you, due to stable drivers and additional plug-in support in various Autodesk and Adobe software suites.

Now if you don't want to invest in a graphics card as of now, hold onto that money and get a SSD and the card later.

If you want to keep over-clocking capabilities, get the Core i5 2500k ~ 12000/- + ASUS P8Z68-M PRO http://in.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8Z68M_PRO/ motherboard. I'm not aware of pricing on the motherboard.

Hope this helps.

i7 2600s is a slower i7 2600 with a lower TDP. so i7 2600k>s

About the "cracked softwares", why not buy genuine software? goin by you're signature.. u must be a rich guy.

I think he likes to test what features are unlocked post the trial time or demo version and then decide whether to buy them or no.
Also being a professional talking about "ahem" softwares is not supposed to be cool here.
So bear in mind that else be ready for an infraction :P

LOL... going by your ID "Hyabusa" you must be a 1200cc or 1500cc Millionaire. I am a down to earth guy with a Simple 125cc Scooter........ And an AMD Athlon 1800 which lasted me for the last 8 years. Each of my components in my signature were purchased at a really bargained & budgeted cost at the right time & at times EMI's help......
So Chill, I have always held a desire to experiment & learn [and I pray It never dies] and with my hard earned money, I have always wanted to get the "best" from all the options that exist withing my budget. And yes after verifying & double-checking each and every component. Today from an AMD Llano config..... I just want to push myself [moneywise] too to see if Intel i5/i7 is possible for me.

WHY NOT BUY GENUINE SOFTWARE ................ Simple, It's over-priced [most of the time] and IF I do not use ANY of it for "Profit or Commercial-Gains" ... I would rather depend on crakd versions. No qualms of conscience there.

Mea Culpa....... I think, I have answered some of the doubt's. As I mentioned - I need certain sofs mainly for "testing" purposes.

I still wish to know whether "AND Intel® Trusted Execution Technology" is a drawback for my purposes.

Meanwhile I have just found out that
i7-2600S is priced at 15600/-
i7-2600K is priced at 14800/-

Is this true

That's It: This Now is my Final List & Hopefully will get it by the weekend

OPTION 1

CPU: Intel i5-2500K ........Rs 10800

Mobo: Asus P8Z68-V PRO .... Rs 13550

OPTION 2

CPU: AMD A8-3850 .......... Rs 7000

Mobo: ASUS F1A75-V Pro .....Rs 8795

OTHER COMPONENTS

RAM : Gskill F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL /Ripjaws 9-9-9-24 [2X4GB] ...... Rs 3150

STORAGE : Seagate Barracuda 1TB SATA 7200.12 SATA 3Gbs ....... Rs 2850

CABINET : NZXT Source 210 Elite ......... Rs 2900 [usb 3.0 & with 2 fans included]

PSU : Seasonic S12 II Bronze 520W ....... Rs 3600

DVD : Hp 24X Mulitiformat DVD Writer 1260i ..... Rs 1150 [or any other SATA based]

MONITOR : BenQ E2220HD ..... Rs 8800

CM additional 2 Fans : Rs 1000 - Do I need this now ?

TOTALS : With Intel Option Rs 47750

With AMD Option Rs 39215

Excess Amt for Intel Option = Rs 8535

TRIED MY BEST TO KEEP THE COSTS DOWN ..... BUT :S

MY REASONS:

1] PROCESSOR: Will most likely settle for the Intel Option as I agree with the various tech-reports of it being a better performer suited to my tasks. I will also try to explore the possibility of installing a dual-boot system with Mac OS. In case I wish to OC [remote possibility] then the 2500K is suited.

2] MOBO: Always preferred Asus as a brand [rock solid stability & performance] & the Z68 is best suited for present & future needs [ I looked carefully through 4 different iterations that Asus had of P8Z68 - The M-PRO; V & V-LE and found V-PRO the best].

I did not do any R&D on Gigabyte at all. Whereas the Intel DZ68DB is a lot cheap BUT i have never favoured Intel's boards.

3] STORAGE: Settling for 1TB 7200 rpm Seagate 3Gbs. My choice was actually the "Barracuda XT SATA 6Gb/s 2TB Hard Drive ST32000641AS" which costs 7600. However I do not find any great performance difference even though it's 6GB/s rated. Will see how SSD's are priced after 6 months & then go for a 120GB. Meanwhile will keeping adding Internal HDD's as & when the need arises.

3] No separate GPU for the moment. If the IGP performs well then it's fine or else will think about an NVidia after 3-5 months.

4] RAM - DDR3 1600. I still have my doubts on this whether it will perform to it's potential on the Intel [it rocks with AMD]. If all's well then I might add another 8GB after a few months for a total of 16GB.

5] If I still wish to lower my cost initially I might drop purchasing the monitor right-away as I still have my old 17" Samsung CRT - Though my wifie will not like the idea :)

AND YOUR FEEDBACK IS Welcome. I have learnt a lot from the suggestions of guys from TE .

Terry

Forget HDD for now.
Use your old one since now a new 500gb hdd costs upwards of 3.5k.
I had got my 2TB last month for 3.4K So buying at current prices for HDD would not be practical.
Just saying.

Where did you get this obnoxious pricing for a 500GB SATA HDD?

You will not regret going down the Intel path Sire, just go for it, I'll answer your queries the same order you have posted them [I'll no. them too just in case] --

1) Intel is a good choice, the Core i5 2500k is a aggressive over-clocker and I think if you twiddle around the settings right, you'll easily surpass the AMD Bulldozer and consume lesser power on the whole, but if you are over-clocking recommend you a better third part Heat-Sink-Fan package than the default one supplied with all Intel processors. In my view they are all hopeless, here is why -- http://www.thinkdigit.com/forum/cpu-motherboards/142397-cpu-cooler-guide-sandy-bridge.html.

A good HSF for the Sandy-Bridge -- Cooler Master Hyper 212+ [in push-pull configuration] ~ 2500/- OR if you want to invest in something more substantial, get the Noctua NH-U12P SE2 ~ 3750/-.

2) The ASUS boards are good but support is anything but that, so be wary OR wait for members to give you alternates in Gigabyte OR MSi.

4) Intel memory controllers are pretty good in the mid-range and high-end so don't worry and over-clocking your PC will only help, for more on Intel and memory -- http://www.anandtech.com/show/4503/sandy-bridge-memory-scaling-choosing-the-best-ddr3.

Hope this helps, Sir. Cheers!!

A Prosperous Dhanteras and Happy Diwali to you in advance.

@ggt u FREAKED me totally..... r u talking abt 500 GB @ 10000 rpm at those rates?
The survivors of my old rig is an 120 & 200 GB which is 8 & 7 years old...... And today my old Rig does not last for more than 10-15 mins. Thanks to the long diwali holidays.... I am now LIVE only thru my HTC phone.....

@Alpha17 u r an angel ..... thanks for ur feedback... can anyone else help me out over here abt the best mobo... I heard that Giga works gr8 with a "Hackintosh" .... all ur feedback (best mobo serial no & brand) will b much8 appreciated as for the next 6 days I will only be dependent on my cellphone to co7mmunicate....... (I
keep checking on my Android....)..... I repeat my home Rig is DEAD......
HELP me make the best decision over the next week.

According to Prime, 5k was the rate for a 2TB, sgt and wd, on the phone with swapnil. now, if this is the rate for 2tb, am expecting 3.5k at least for a 1tb and 2.5k for 500gb.

anfjavid mentioned it a thread which mentions that hdd prices have Gone up.
I suggest you wait a month or two for hdd prices to settle down and make the purchase.
Prices have gone up with speculation of shortage.
Also for the time being you can look for some external drives from sites like flipkart or letsbuy.
Prices There havent changed there.
Buy the essential components now and postpone your hdd purchase for a month.

Thanks Vivek, now this is like a 20% increase..... phew this is terrible (I hope u r referring ONLY to the 7200 rpm drives which I am interested in and not the 5900 rpm)...... What else to say, BAD Timing........ F*&%$# ........ what do I do now.

BUT WHAT ABOUT ALL THE REMAINING COMPONENTS to build a RIG ..... is there a proportionate 10-20% increase in prices? Looks like I will have to pick each component separately ..... and slowly..... scout online stores, and be patient as @ggt suggests ....before my RIG gets assembled in its totality....
