Hi!

I'm having a Dell Vostro 1400 Laptop

Want to replace the HD that came with it but couldn't work out how to go about it. I searched Google but there's not much information available about the model that I'm using.

Following is the assembly after I unscrew the HD covering plate on the back of the Laptop. Don't know how to proceed further, please help !!

STOP.

DO NOT PULL FLAP U SEE ON LEFT.

Look at the HDD connector. The connector is on the left. Any pulling and HDD + connector is toast. :P

Anyway, now that I have your attention, simply slide the hard drive to the right in the direction of the arrows till it disengages from the connector on the left. Then and ONLY then do you lift it up.

Thanks guys, but the hard disk won't slide a iota to the right.. also as the connectors are on left side, I didn't try to pull the hard disk forcefully using the flap on the left side.

I have 1 320 GB hard disk lying idle with me and I'm unable to use it.....help me guys

use tweaser's or slight thumb press on the 'slide' location and slide it towards the right at the same time lift it out.....

U will need to use some force to slide it to the right to get the connector to disengage :) And yes, the distance it will move will be only 5-6mm or so, but sufficient to remove the HDD.

Just pull up the plastic "flap" on the left, ie above the connectors.
in this lappy, hdd's pins are connected to one more adapter which the connects to the motherboard. u'll know when u pull th hdd out. make sure u don't loose the small adapter when remove it to connect this hdd to ur PC or other lappy.
The adapter is quite easy to break to. Be carefull.

I had vostro lappy and i used to remove the hdd atleast twice in a week.
In vostro laapy, the hdd connector on mobo needs the pins to be connected vertically, while in other lappys u need to slide the hdd first.

Thanks for helping out guys. I followed the method posted by K-TRON here and was able to replace the hard disk successfully ..... thanks Amarbir Ji for the help....repped
