RAM G.Skill Ripjaws 2x2GB 1600MHz CL9 3600

GPU Sapphire HD6870 14500

U wud b able to play almost every game at max setting... plus it has core i5 760 which consumes less power when it is in C1E/C3 mode(Idle)... so i5 760 proccy wud b great for 24/7 downloading rig...

Thanks for the quick reply! One doubt though... Hmmm.... how is the HD6870 different from the HD5850? Spec wise, they are almost the same...

If u r going with the 45k rig that i suggested then buy CM690II Advanced which wud b great for future upgrades only if u r thinking to upgrade ur cabby too... but if u dont wanna upgrade ur cabby then atleast buy a CM Hyper 212+ CPU cooler which will keep ur CPU cool... coz on Stock HSF when i5 760 is on full load the temperature of i5 760 goes beyond 72C which is i5 760 max safe temp...

I am considering changing my cabinet as well. I was assuming that the stock cooler would be enough but if it is going to go beyond 72 C then I guess I need a cooler as well, as outside temp in Chennai during summer shoots up to 45 C. How much is the CM690II Advanced and CM Hyper 212+ Cooler ?

Coolermaster 690 is selling for 4.3K and CM Hyper 212+ is selling for 1.8k... CM690II Advanced is much more expensive... so i wud recommend u to go with the CM690...

Thanks a lot for your advice. :) I am planning to upgrade sometime during mid Jan. I am hoping the prices might come down slightly by then. :p

I suggest waiting for Sandybridge, a Core i7-2600 rig will be a better rig Power Consumption wise and since this is a download rig, power consumption should be one of the important things you should be looking at.

Radeon 6870 has somewhat lesser power consumption than 5850, so out of 6870 and 5850 for almost the same performance, 6870 is a no-brainer..

Your PSU will do fine, Antec has one of the most reliable PSU's and anyways a 6870 reuires a 500 Watts PSU and Antec TP 550 is very well capable of providing more than 600 Watts at 80%+ efficiency..

You will have to change the OS to windows 7 64 bit because a 32 bit OS's do not support more than 3.25 Gigs of RAM...

Cheerio...

That's not true. You say intel ships i5's with HSF that cant handle the TDP? Sure it might be a little on the higher side for a smaller cabinet. If it's kept at stock this is not going to happen unless and until it's a faulty one.

Check out this review if u think that whatever i said was wrong...

http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1060/5

See the load temperature...

And BTW i have tried using core i5 750 on stock HSF it does go beyond 72C on full load... thats y i bought Noctua NH-U12P SE2 cooler...

What I'm saying is what you said does not apply to everyone. Your trying to say that every i5 750 processor with Stock HSF will go above 72* which is not right.

Buy one and try it urself... if u think everyone's wrong ;)

Hmmm, according to the deltapage website, its Rs. 15000 and that doesn’t fit my budget sadly. Is the Intel® Core™ i5 2300 Processor - 2.8 GHz good enough? Its 9000 and fits the budget as compared to the i7 2600.

Delta - The Best in IT in INDIA

The website says it will be launched in India on Jan 18th. So i would say wait up for few days before you upgrade.
Thanks for the heads up! I guess I will wait.

@Everyone

One small doubt though, apart from power consumption, how is the i5 Sandybridge better than the current i5. Being out of touch with technology really sucks >_<

And... The i5 SandyBridge seems to come with integrated graphics. That means, if the Radeon Card conks out, I can always use the integrated gpu in the proc as backup till I get my Radeon fixed right ?
