Hey,
I finally bought the Asus P8P67 Pro and i5 2500k... got the bundle for 25k. I'm looking around for a 8GB 1600 dual channel kit(4GB*2). xms3 or ripjaws or hyperx. anything. not being able to find this anywhere. could anyone help me with this?

Better bet for you --

Gskill Ripjaws 1600Mhz DDR3 4GB X 1 -- for a single stick of 4GB RAM.

Gskill -- take your pick :). Hope this helps.

My question is Dual Channel kits are tested and packed. If the 2 sticks dont work in dual channel then i'll be in a fix..

For ram stick to run at dual channel, the mobo must support it. And ram from from same brand at running at same speed and timing won't have any negative effect on dual channel.

Your can get 2xGskill Ripjaws 4GB stick :)

Okay.. So basically, I have the ASUS P8P67 PRO and i5 2500k. If i buy 2 of the 4gb sticks separately they will work in dual channel for sure..? because i have read about cases where they dont.

Where exactly? They indeed work in dual channel provided you have them inserted in the right slots.

I think our friend stalker has explained this a couple of times already - RAMs barely have an effect on the overclocking of the unlocked SNB processor since the FSB speed and base clock are now not related. It is only the multiplier that plays a crucial role here. Finer changes to BCLK could be done later after you have set the multiplier.

Get a couple of Corsair XMS 3 sticks from ebay - eBay India: CORSAIR XMS3 4GB Single Stick DDR3 1600MHz Desktop Ram (item 270688414144 end time 05-May-2011 18:53:07 IST)

^^ It should usually work as confirmed by people in a lot of forums, but flawless operation is not 100% guaranteed. Even GSKill Rep over at XS forums said that proper operation at rated specs is not guaranteed with unmatched kits and that was in the knowledge that a potential customer may be choosing a matched pair kit from other brand over GSkill single stick Kits.

Also in problematic cases, dual channel operation is not the issue, but stable operation at rated speeds. For instance the RAM rated for 1600MHz may only work at 1333Mhz only.

Also the RAM voltage recommendation for Sandy Bridge is 1.5V +/- 5% (i.e max 1.575V). XMS3 would have no issues working if they can manage their rated specs under 1.6V and many of the newer XMS3's stocks have been found to work well even at the lowered voltage. However, All RAM sticks are not born equal and there may be 1.65V sticks that do require above 1.6V for stable operation. While Sandy bridge boards have been found to be working stable even at 1.65V, there are no guarantee as such. Bottom line is if you want to be risk free, better get 1.5V RAM and matched pairs if possible.

This is what I gathered on the RAM issue so far.

This very issue is causing a lot of problems for users on Asus boards over at [H] and XS - we are yet to face the wrath! :P

A majority of them blame it on the boards though since the RAMs work fine on AMD based systems. A BIOS update could resolve this issue though.

i just called navkar it from ebay.. They said they'll have the kit in stock within 3 to 4 days.. so should i wait for the kit or should i just go ahead with these 2 separate modules?

AFAIK, ram kits are sure to run in dual channel, better have some patience and wait for 3-4 days, if you are impatient then go ahead and get one locally :)

Its your call.. Since your purchase would be only two sticks, I don't think you should see any problems even with unmatched sticks. In my case, I am going for 4 sticks and populating all slots on mobo is always a gamble, so I would prefer to go with matched pairs. Its your call in the end. Even me and sarang have orders placed with him under the impression that he had ready stock, unfortunately, his stock status has went out of sync, since we don't have the boards or other components yet, we have decided to wait it out at least for the period that they specified.

Navakar has Vengeance in stock. They are giving some discount on it, just replaced my order of RipjasX with the Vengeance kit.

How much did they quote you for the Vengenace? They quoted me 1k above the market price that I know. In any case, If I go for Vengeance, I would need to stick to Corsair H70 for cooling. None of the tower coolers can accommodate for the height of these sticks.

fyi, vengeance has super flimsy heatspreaders

Thanks for dampening the spirits right in the eve of the day of hope. :P (I and Yash are supposed to get the chips n boards tomorrow) .

@Lord Nemesis: 7200 for 4GBx2 1600 MHz.

I am kinda pondering cancelling the order if anyways its gonna be the vengeance then why not any of the TE dealers? Navkar/Deven also said you got the sticks hence I wont get 'em tomorrow :@

is it 5.5k for Ripjaws X or the regular Ripjaws?

Its 5.5k for normal ripjaws. well.. according to my reading, the G.skill mods say that its rare that 2 separate modules wont work in dual channel. only the kits are tested and packed. thats the only difference. i guess the final call i mine. lets see :\

No, I didn't get the Vengeance. If I really wanted the Vengeance, I would have canceled the order and got them from other sources where they are selling for considerably cheaper. I told him that I would wait a bit for the GSkill's and let eBay refund me automatically when the grace time for shipping the product is over in case he does not get the stocks in between.
