Bhavin, Just some notes about the pcpitshop resilts...

1. u only posted one page..there r other pages tooo.. like hardware,
here is the link of my results.
http://www.pcpitstop.com/techexpress.asp?id=CRBVMWEZ14QSRJ86

2. Disable paging to kernal.......I hve it disabled. for u also it may improve performance..
how to do it please take time to explain

3. IE security zone permissions: change it to none (pcpitshop will explain)
will do it

4. Harddrive seems a bit old one ...5400rpm...so speed is low..If that's not the case, then somthing is wrong... Slow speed, slow performance...
i have samsung 7200 rpm drive. what could be the problem

5. FAT32: Once i jumped into the ntfs bandwagon, never looked back...
First i started with "C" as ntfs and all others as fat32 ..
Now, everything is NTFS...
My suggestion: whenever u plan to re-install xp, gofor NTFS all the way. (NB: Once ur "C" is ntfs, u can convert fat32 of other drives to ntfs from cmd line, without losing any data...)
i know ntfs is better but i can not take time out to reformat completely and do all the pain to reinstall everything, but now seems it seems inevitable, but will take time.

There can be many reasons, like:

1. When you place a slower device (cd DVD ZIP tape) on the same IDE cable as the hard drive it will slow down the hard drives read-write speed.

2. If dma is unchecked. See if DMA is checked in Start, Control Panel, system, open it, hardware-->device manager, select drive, Properties, Settings and note the mode.

3. IDE cable may be defective or not properly seated. try another cable. Put it on secondary/primary IDE. try different options.

4.
HD's with bad sectors will be slow and it is also possible that u received a HD that doesn't perform up to par (then nothing can be done) or ur mobo is not transferring data fully. If this is the case, u will hve to test the HDD in another pc to eliminate this possibility.

5.Finally, virus., disk fragmentation...incorrect registry entries... first do disk error checking (pls remember to select the two options) for all drives, then do a de-frag. I will also suggest u to run registry mechanic after this and fixing all problamatic entries/fragments (backup as usual or create a restore point). Now compress the registry. U can use system mechanic (u hve) to compress it.

Rest later...........

PS: my 5400 rpm is giving me 26 mb/sec....

Just a quick note. (I also edited some of the info in my prev post, so pls read again)

Try the pcpitshop test after terminating all unnecessary running processess from task manager, like google desktop search, folding@H, firewall etc (after testing immediately enable). I'm guessing if too many programs are engaging HDD by running in the background may affect..

2. Update ur java. Ver 2 is out....

3. and to disable paging of kernal memory

These Settings will fine tune your systems memory management -at least 512MB of ram recommended

go to start\run\regedit -and then to the following key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management

1.DisablePagingExecutive -double click it and in the decimal put a 1 - this allows XP to keep as much data in memory now instead of paging sections of ram to harddrive, which yeilds faster performance.

A good read here. many tweaks applies to xp also

Bye

BTW, What's ur pagefile setting??

kernel memory paging disabled.

dma on

defrag done day before yesterday with windows defrag and sys mechanic

registry cleaning done with sys mechanic and easy cleaner yesterday. will get registry mechanic and redo it. yes i did compact the registry.

no viruses (kaspersky, spyware blaster, spybot s and d, adaware, sygate personal firewall on vigil with latest updates. will do rescan with kaspersky tonight)

will check the disk health with samsung utility, chkdsk, and spinrite. (if you have better options do tell me)

rest i will check again later.

thanks

disk health fine no problems

could it be due to near full hdd?

my paging file custom : monimum 768 max 1024 mbs

checking for latest mb drivers at intel website.

If defrag can run without any low disk space warning, then there's space in hdd...

Try to update the mobo drivers... BTW, what dma mode is on???
.
I will also replace the 80 pin ide cable ..... a faulty ide cable is so common now.....pls keep this in mind tooo...

Check the jumper settig of hdd...make sure its in master position...

PS: did u update ur java?? Just a quick qn? DO u any time feel the pc is slow......like its taking too much time to open a program or transfer data....

Hi!i did the scan with SpyBot and AD Aware in order to resolve the Generic Host Process for Windows 32 problem but it only stopped when i turned the Windows Firewall on!So give it a try as well!I guess it was entering again once connected to the internet!

Thanks for the tips, greetings to everyone!

Marko.
