Yipee!! Success!!!
Thanks for helping me out guys! I have been able to do the setup by following psynaps3's listed instructions. Now that I have already done, it doesn't seems a biggie!

psynaps3, Thanks man!
I also could not locate gateway setting in linksys setup page (where I was suposed to put value 192.168.0.1). It seems that things are working even without this.
Also http://192.168.0.1 doesnt opens anything. It seems that modem setup page becomes available only when modem is directly connected to PC.

I disabled DHCP in router and modem. In my laptop I defined static IP in Alternate Configuration tab.

For security, I changed SSID name to something else. Also I added laptop's wireless card address into Mac list in router for which exclusive wireless access is available. This is enough I suppose. Do I also need to use WPA? Wont it slow things down?

For more wireless security, I have now enabled "WPA Personal" and also disabled SSID broadcast. First I didnt know how to connect to wireless network when SSID is not being broadcast. But later I discovered manual wireless network setup tab and I was able to define config for my setup.

I think I am all done now except being able to access modem homepage. Looks like I will have to live without this.

@rshri,

Glad to hear its working for you. I'll check out if its possible to access both the router and the modem when i get home.

If you happen to experience any stability issues and would like to tweak the router further, head over to the dd-wrt forums. Its an alternative firmware which is highly recommended.

Sorry for bumping this super old thread of mine! I have a doubt -

Yesterday during a thunderstorm, lightning fried my old trusty 220BX modem. As indicated in this thread, I was using this in bridged mode with my linksys WRT54GS router. I got a replacement - a refurbished 220BX1 for Rs400/-. I connected it today with same bridged mode setup; its working fine except that, strangely enough, its Data LED doesn't lights up! To fix this, I changed my router's PPPoE option to 'Keep Alive' (It was 'Connect on Demand') before. But this doesn't seems to change anything.
In my previous 220BX modem, all four LEDs used to light up using the same setup. What has changed?

[Mods - If possible, please move this thread to 'Networking' section]
