I am currently using a WiFi setup at my home which compromises of a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 router and a Beetel 220BX ADSL modem. My house has three floors and i use my usage includes the following gadgets(Desktop, Two Laptops and iPad). The Desktop is on the first floor and rest can would be used on the ground floor. I had setted up the Wifi router on the first floor. The connectivity was never great on the ground floor forget the basement though i hardly use any gadgets in the basement currently.

Now my Beetel 220BX modem is dead. And i want to setup the home with a wireless adsl modem cum router and set the current Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 router as the access point. Want to setup the modem on the ground floor and use the router as a access point on the first floor to boost up the signal.

I wanted to know what are the good adsl modem cum routers available in the market which have good range and would be easily configurable with the current router. Also is it a good idea to buy a modem cum router or should i invest in a separate modem and a access point. My overall budget for the same is about 2.5K but if something which has a better features is available under 4K then i don't mind spending a more.

Finally the setup would be used to stream HD movies over WiFi between the Desktop and the iPad and maybe a HTPC which would also be on the ground floor. Also do you get good speeds in current WiFi standards for data transfer as last time i tried copying about 10 GB of data and it took ages.

TIA

Streaming HD content over a wireless G router will be problematic for sure. For something like that, a decent N router/AP would be recommended. Not sure if there's anything like that available within 4k. I remember someone posting something about a Buffalo or Netgear router for 3.8k. Not sure though. Again, that's was a router, not a modem+router. Naturally, modem+router units would be more expensive.

Well i finally ended up loading tomato firmware for the router and exchanged my modem with Airtel free of cost. The setup is working fine as of now but i am also looking for a Wireless N router. Will invest in a good one.

@Metalspree: Nops...
