Hello guys.. I have a GPU(8600 GTS MSI) which has a DVI-I dual link, which i want to connect to LCD (T190) which has a DVI-D dual link.
Confusion is how should i connect these jacks because i presume that if i purchase a DVI-I dual link cable then both the male-female would be dual therby not enabling me to connect to lcd. And if i purchase a DVI-I single link i would not be able to connect to my GPU.
Please help me to clear my confusion and what would be the total cost of the solution?
Thank you.

^^ Bruv just get a standard DVI cable ~ 250/-, hook up the cable between the monitor and the graphics card and you should be good to go.

Single-link (DVI-D) cable works with both single- and double-link receptacles, whether the receptacle is DVI-I or DVI-D

The issue is when you have a dual-link cable and a single-link receptacle, the additional pins do not fit.

The center row of pins is missing in a single-link connector. Also DVI-I (old style) has 4 additional analog pins. Those are incompatible with DVI-D receptacles.

Since i have raised this query anyways i would also like to have another query solved. I also have a 9600GT which has an HDMI port which i think can connect to my LCD which has DVI-D single link. Point is which would be more benificial(DVI-D to DVI-D cable or HDMI-DVI-D cable). If its the latter then i think i would go for it.

DVI-D to DVI-D, the HDMI will need a dedicated HDMI port paired with a good monitor to show real difference in picture quality from a standard DVI connector.

yes, thats true..... but do you want audio or are concerned abt the video quality?

Both.. why not go for video and audio if its possible through hdmi. I mean does HDMI gives substandard sound compared to normal sound adapters? Or does it require some more hardware if using hdmi for sound?

If a cable has DVI at one end it cannot transmit sound. Only if there is an HDMI connector at both ends and a receiver and transmitter capable of decoding an audio stream as well.

I have hdmi-dvi cable connected to my gpu-monitor , my monitor dosnt have hdmi but i chose it over DVI-DVI because its easier to remove the cable from the gpu because you dont have screw it in like dvi.

Incorrect. Any GFX Card within the last year, which has either a SPDIF Input point or a Onboard sound processor will output sound on DVI also. To use the sound, you need a DVI to HDMI dongle to connect it to the Screen. There was another thread a few days back where OP was not able to use a particular cable for HDMI connection and he also observed the same. This is a very common misconception.
