is there a simple iso file that i can add the award bios and files too. or something that will let me read a usb drive too

Thanks

If you use Alt+F2 then the cd need not be bootable,
other wise you can create a bootable cd thru nero using either the default nero bootimage file or else download a boot file from Bootable CD Utilities by reanimatolog - Bootable floppy and harddisk images

i use the 2.88mb boot image and works just fine

bootable discs through nero do not detect the jmicron ide controller. hence it causes many problems.

i think supra knows which iso to get. he had given me a link 2-3 months back.

Do you have an upgrade utility in the BIOS, if so then it does not need to be bootable. Just boot to BIOS and point upgrade utility to CD Drive.

thanks for all the responses...i am trying to update the bios of an Abit p35-e board. for some reason it refuses to boot of a usb stick and it does not support the alt-f2 key combination. the only way it seems to work is if i boot off a cd image.

Just make a dos bootable usb stick with the HP USB Flash Drive DOS format utility. The usb stick would then be detected as a bootable HDD in the bios and not under "Removable Disk"(atleast it does in my striker extreme m/b), so just change the 1st HDD boot option to the usb stick to boot from it.
Why bother with old system of using optical disks which are prone to physical damage like scratches etc...

+1 for this. The HP utility is the best and the easiest I've seen to make a USB boot disk. However, I think it can only make a DOS or a Windows 98 boot disk(based on the version of IO, MSDOS and COMMAND).

You can find it here.

HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool - v2.1.8 Download - EXTREME Overclocking

The Win XP boot sector is unusual and I've not been able to find any utility to write the XP boot sector onto a floppy or a USB disk. From what I've seen, Win XP, due to it's NT heritage, does not rely on IO.SYS, MSDOS.SYS(except for some silly settings in this file) and COMMAND.COM for internal commands. Anyone know how to duplicate the Win XP boot sector on your HDD onto a floppy or a USB disk?
