Help needed: Broken FPS in Farcry2 with my config

C2D 8400 @ 3Ghz

2 GB DDR 800 RAM

ATI 4870 512 MB

ASUS Xonar DX

Res 1900 x 1200

Settings Ultra High with 0 AA

I am not getting anything above 10 while guys @ [H] with a faster system but on 2560 res is getting around 36FPS on an average with minimum being 28. What could be wrong with my system. I tried both Dx9 mode on XP and Dx10 mode on Vista but still no difference.

Added later: Guys at guru3d are also getting 36 FPS on an average with almost similar config as mine....

Help me out here...
 
Did you apply the Farcry 2 hotfix released by AMD for the ATI cards??

I'm assuming you haven't. Here:

What drivers're you using?? 8.10 or 8.9??

You should be getting 30+ fps. The upcoming ATI drivers'll improve these frames. :)
 
I sense a corrupt driver issue then.

Re-install the drivers and check.

Is it a Vista Ultimate 64-bit OS that you're using?? Applied the SP1 I believe.
 
Those benchmarking figures never fail to surprise me. The first thing I tried the game on was @1280x1024 75Hz, Ultra High & with 4X AA. It butchered my system to a measly 17Fps to 25Fps. Then switched to everything on high (Shadown medium) & with 2X AA & got 56-64Fps. But the game still looks really good with it. Then again I have a weak processor & this game seems to be CPU bound as well.
 
Strange. Will have an extended session later in the evening today and post results. Played only for 15 mins in the morning and did not face any such issues. This with Vista 32-bit (No SP1), Catalyst 8.8 and 4850 @ 720 / 1120 :P

Switch, please uninstall the drivers, use Driver Cleaner in Safe mode to clean all, reinstall and then try. I would also suggest to defrag the partition on which the game is installed.
 
Aye Freaky, the 8.10 is better than 8.8 isn't it?? :S

Or is it cos they dont support "teh modded" BIOS??? :P

Was on 8.9 and was playing BiA : HH. Came to the famous Black Friday level where things started acting up. Assumed it was the driver and went back only to find that the level in the game is fooked on the ATi HD series :P Didn't bother going back.
 
Well have tried the game on 32 bit OS only(Xp and Vista). The game is indeed running very very choppy. All the other games were working fine with the earlier drivers. Will use driver cleaner pro and then try the game and also will try de-fragmenting the HDD on which the game is installed.
 
Sorry for offtopic but would like to know from where did you guys get this game farcry2 as it was suppose to release on 24th isnt it :huh: .do let me know where did you get this game me too will get it dying to play.:)
 
Finally i have managed to run it fine on XP... Getting about 35-45 FPS constantly @ 1900x1200 res... Will need to work a bit on Vista now...

The game looks good... Its a huge improvement on Farcry(Gfx wise) but falls quite a bit short off Crysis... Though it doesn't matter that much as one needs a monster machine to run Crysis anyways... HDR seems to be implemented really well in the game...

Now i just hope that gameplay should be fun cause the story by what i have read on the net seems to be a drag :(
