Help needed buying 2.1 speaker setup

My requirements are same as that of the OP (Gaming, Movies and absolutely no music) except that I want to limit my budget to 7k max. I was considering the Edifier S330 and Corsair SP2200 (if it is available in India within my budget), but Logitech Z623 too seems to fit in my budget going by SMC's price. So is it a good option for gaming?

I have used Z5500-D, bass was boomy instead of tight and punchy, and center channel used to distort. SOLD IT :D

You should and definitely buy 5.1 rather than 2 channel :)

You can buy Logitech Z506 and by specs it seems to me a very gud option :)

Strictly no music is gonna save the day for you.

The z623 are the ones to be fitting your requirements to a T. Reason being that the set lets you down with its mid range. For any speaker to be considered good for music, you cannot overlook this factor. But z623 gives decent performance with games and movies to hold fort.Your experience should be fine. Get a demo if possible.

Btw.. any idea of availability and pricing of Logitech’s Z250 here ?

The SP2200 is available it appears (I think Sorcerer had mentioned it in some thread before). But I suggest you wait for the SP2500. If it retails near ~10k, it might be a seriously good investment. All the reviews seem to suggest that this is a good set.

^^ I do know that 5.1 is preferred for gaming and I did own an Altec Lansing 251 in the past (till it broke down), but there aren't any decent budget 5.1's anymore. Secondly there is the issue of space as well. Currently even if I go for a 5.1 kit, at least for the time being, I would have to end up placing the surround speakers not far apart from the front speakers. In any case, I have already considered the Z506, but it doesn't seem to have decent reviews. The other option that I heard some good things about is the Creative Inspire T6200 and it doesn't seem to be easily available. So I am fine going with a decent 2.1 and use my X-Fi for virtual surround.

SP2500 is already retailing in India at twice my budget. i.e 15k odd and I don't think it would go down to 10k any time soon

So tossup between 5.6k for Logitech Z623 and Corsair SP2500 @ 14.8k ? What would be VFM ?

Know what ? That SMC International offer where Z623 was available for 5.5k is now gone :(

Guys we are getting out of the point. OP wanted a 2.1 speaker set primarily for games & movies. If Z-2300 (I bought at INR 6,800) was available today, it would have blown away its opposition (except SP2500) in the water in movies & games. Hands down. Its 8 inch 120 watts long throw bass driver have the ability to shake the walls of any room. It simply creates the ambiance required for movies & games. But since it is not available anymore within INR 10K Z-623 is the best bet. Again Z-623 is only half of Z-2300 and for me do not justify the price tag.

But if music comes in then then its altogether another story. Under 8K Altec Lansing MX-6021 is the best for music. Atleast i wound have gone for it within 8K. If SP-2500 is available under 12K then it ok. Creative T3 is is primary meant for music.

The prices as per the links in this thread are 7.5k for logitech z623 and 14.8 for corsair sp2500. I would consider spending the extra amount for the corsair if its really worth it. Hence the question, which is more Value for Money ?

And yeah, thanks all for the great responses..!

If you can increase the budget.. the def the Corsair SP2500.

Where is the confusion ?

Z623 aint meant for music, whereas Corsair will get you the full monty of a speaker.

SP-2500 costs two times more than Z-623, but it also delivers two times more. The truth is for 2.1 computer speakers focusing on movies & games SP2500 is the best bet & the most powerful. Now you will argue you can get 5.1 Z5500 at that price with more watts. But Z5500 can not perform like SP2500 in music department.

So the end line is SP-2500 is a jack of all trades(music/movies/games) and almost master of all.

Yes, Studio Monitors are different beast altogether and they are generally focused in music.

That second comment was more in like of what I was looking for... i.e. if SP-2500 were worth spending twice the amount of Z-623... and that comparison with the 5.1 Z5500 at a similar price point helped too... guess Corsair SP2500 it is... thanks!

Just got the speakers delivered to my place... its a huge freakin box..! Paid 14.75 k + shipping charges. Will try them out later tonight!
