Help needed diagnosing a slow LAN setup.

My setup: Pretty standard: beelink modem -> wifi router(150mbps max).
router is connected via ethernet cable to PC (intel gigabit). wifi router's wifi connects to android TV and other devices.

Issue is that even though I can stream on wifi devices, 720P movies from the internet, I can't stream 720P movies from my PC to a wifi device! transferring files is also slow both ways, ethernet -> wifi device AND wifi -> ethernet PC.
Ex: I am getting speed of only 650KB/sec when transferring a file from my phone (wifi ) to my PC.
The wifi link speed is 72 Mbps, and the phone is right next to the router! The PC is connected


SO I an convinced there is something wrong with my LAN setup! Either on my PC or in my router settings..
I have no idea about networking and its details. Networking gurus please help diagnose this issue!

PC Details: windows 8 (media sharing turned off). transferring over smb. I also tried ftp transfer - still slow.

1 - check if your PC LAN NIC is negotiated at full duplex and speed (100Mb or 1Gig whatever your wifi router supports)
2 - use a new factory pressed Ethernet cable and check.

I changed my cable from a cat 5 to cat 5e and almost got instant results. after a bit of fiddling with disabling windows sharing / active passive mode in ftp etc.. I am now getting 3MBPS/sec with filezilla ftp even at a far distance from the router.

Although the wifi speed seems to top out at 30mbps, but for the moment my problem is resolved!
