Hi Folks,
I am going to purchase a Dell Inspiron 1420. But all credit goes to this forum, as I have done an extensive study of many posts and selected this system.
Thanks to all those guys who are the torchbearers, went ahead and brought the Inspirons and gave a hands-on review :hap2: .
Before going ahead with the deal, ofcourse I would like to get my configuration and price quoated review by you folks.

I am getting the below configured system at 54,420/- . Please let me know, is the deal worth it.

Any changes, suggestions are appreciated and welcomed.

hey buddy .. ta config sounds pretty neat.. well configured (actually quite a lotta powerful parts used.. :) ) anyways when ur spending so much money on it.. i would seriously recommend tat u go an extend ur warranty to 3 years.. and bargain ur ass of with the dell reps.. :) !!!

is this the Site price???think u can get it lower...

Jus bargain ur ass off man...N try more than one rep....It is Totally essential if u wanna geta good deal,,,tell that u knw that they offer many goodies,,,Ask for free laptop bag, Pendrive n all if he's not willing to give a cash-less...

I got my vostro @43k excellent bargain, dey delayed by a week so asked compensation, got 1yr xtra warranty,
Den now mine has a bit flaring hinges so getin replaced n asked compensation so got a Backpack--3500rs n a pendrive 1gb--1600rs as per dell website!!!!!

N personally i think u can get the warrany increased wid out prob @ the current price...

man jus try n find as many loopholes a s u can n u can hav loads of goodies...Happy haggling,

@amityrock - Thanks for your suggestion. Surely I will charge up and bargain man.
@PartyMonger - Vostro 2 43K with so many goodies. Man thats the deal u made it. Will ask for the pendirve.
Well the price was 56,206/-(as per website, without tax)..and i bargained it down to 54,420/-...Do you still think I can bargain it down more?

dude.. call them up rather tan sending online requests.. an if necessary use diff (read fake) names once.. hehe..

and awestriker, yeah ul easily get a lil more discount most prob if u extend ur warranty then they would be even more willing to give a discount (cause they hav massive margins on warranty.. )

@amityrock: lemme try it 2mrw. was able to bargain it down to 54K today.

@PartyMonger: they are giving me a cash discount, but how much did u bargain for your Vostro system, the difference in website price and your price.

its a gud config but instead of going for a company pc why don't u get it assembled buy the parts from some gud dealer and catch on a hardware guy tht can assemble it for you...i hope that would be much more cheaper. by the way mostly all the hardware comes with their independent warranty nowdayz. think again before you buy and spend tht much money its your money only dude...:)

@tushar - but where can i get a laptop assembled, and that too with a warranty. i wud hve surely done it, if there were decent options.

DUDE!!! Try configuring an Inspiron 1520. For the same price, or lesser, you can configure the same system as you've listed with the following additions:

1. GeForce 8600M GT (if you're a gamer)

2. 1 year complete-cover.

3. Windows XP SP2

In today's date, you just can't a better value-for-money system than the 1520, and believe me I've been doing nothing but configuring different systems on Dell's site for the past few days. Everything else is more expensive for the same equipment.

Don't start configuring the system from the main page of notebooks. On the right hand side of the page there are links to different types of notebooks. Click on "Dell Inspiron Notebooks"- View All Models. Then select the Inspiron 1520. In the new page that opens, select the MORE EXPENSIVE of the two options (Yes, you read that right!) Now configure this system as you've described above. You'll get all that in about Rs. 57000. And THEN, you should call up a Dell rep and bargain like hell!

Good luck!

P.S. If you think this was useful, then some rep points wouldn't hurt! ;)

Just checked it again. You can add a 9-cell battery too. Total price: Rs. 57,378!

Even if you remove the stuff I've recommended and go with what you've described in your configuration, the total price comes out to be Rs. 50,915 (without 1 year complete cover) and Rs. 53,491 (with 1 year complete cover aka Dell Care.)

O Sh**! Made a mistake! Sorry! Configured the above mentioned systems with XP SP2. With Vista Home, the respective system prices come out to be:

Rs. 49,650 and Rs. 52,226 respectively!

I think that's pretty hard to beat in terms of bang for the buck right now!

Mine site price was abt 49k..

first configure the lappy u want n save wid diff email ids...make sure they r valid,,
Den wat u shud do is call them on a free no,,and get an exec on line...den give him ur cart numbers(have 2 3 diferent numbers wid diff emails but same config n see..,,,)

Den Bargain like hell,, tell dat ur friend got it much lesser and that he shud offer a better deal, tell that u know they cant match other reps offers but still y cant u get the same offers..

tell him he 5k cash off, got free warranty upgrade, got to choose any bag he wanted free of cost,,don try n go small ask Big so that they know, that u know wat they can offer...

Once u order, track the website order date,, its usually screwed up,,,Plus @15days call them ,tell dat u were goin accordin to it,, tel that u had bee told tha tit'l reach by today but it hasnt, n u had work in 5 days n all dat stuff dat'l get u more freebies...don settle for less..U'l only get it better fro ur self...
proc, hd, remote, and ear buds were diff,,
Anyway the machine is still verry good @ the current price,,,no hp even comes close...

n yeah if dat price that dude is sayin above is true den wid a 8600gt id say go for it hands down,, widout bargaining also it wud be really cool...also go wid 9cell and wireless N card

NEVER get a laptop assembled :p

I dont even know if anyone does it in India.....

No offense tushar but its never worth it :p u might save some money but in case of any issues ur ********. No local assembler can offer the kind of all India warranty etc that u can get from every manufacturer :p + Dell has onsite warranty @ ur home :)

Assembled for desktop: YES..always :)

Laptop: NEVER......

@mdudeja:Thanks a lot for reveiwing my system and giving your inputs. I didn't knew this cheap wud be 1520. Infact earlier I went for 1520, and it became costly and hence i switched to 1420. Gr8 idea to configure.Patience is the key, and u have it. Repped you dude.

@PartyMonger: Man we should make a bargain sticky thread. U should moderate. Helluva of idea. Damn good dude.Proved that gals sudn't take guys easy when it comes to bargaining, and that too over phone.Repped you buddy.

@tushar: Now he is market master. I didn't knew that in nehruplace I can get lappy's assembled. This is gonna be useful for my friends who got some old laptops. They require much needed servicing. Thanks a lot tushar for ur inputs.

@techie_007: Precaution is better than cure. What u said is correct. Assembling a desktop is cake walk, and we don't worry about the heat it generates or we how buly it is. But in case of laptops the nice-to-have and precisely must-have are silent operation, no overheating, good battery life and a good after sales support.

It was a pleasant Sunday surprise, when my Dell Inspiron 1520 arrived  . Beating the normal 15 business days delivery time, Dell delivered my system precisely 13days. Now we are very near to the US Dell delivery benchmark performance level. Hats Off to Dell people :hap2: . The Dell Install people(TVSE has taken the contract in Chennai), arrived today(3-Dec-07) morning for the usual checking and setup.
Here is now I am posting the Windows Performance Index snapshot after setting the WiFi.

Gotta rush to office guys..
Will post more on my experience. Till now I can say, the keyboards have a good tactile feedback and as an observation, the keys laid vertically to the right side(Delete, Home, PageUp..) etc provide a visual treat as if they are floating :eek:hyeah:

Cheers,
Awe :)
