Getting PAW and D43 today, most probably, if i can make it there today!!

Was buying P180 or CM Stacker But Antec TP 2.0 480 not avilable yet?
If i buy the TX1088AMG, i get TP 2.0 480 too!!
And can save a few bucks too!!:hap2:
Will it be ok for my Rig considering the fact that my place is dusty and no AC!!
Anybody using Antec AMGs or not, please advice so that i don't feel sorry for compromising!!

Hi!!
Finally my PC is ready after a lot of running around.
Won't get down to the details but well worth the time devoted by you guys and my efforts.
Shortage of BIG6600GT and 997DF and unavailability of Antec Tp2.0 550, 3700 AMG created a lot of tension!!
Here is my almost done config from which i am posting.

Venice 3000- 0521 APMW-7200/-, waited 2 weeks for 0517 EPAW but finally dealer said no hope!!
A8NE- 7000/-
2x512 DDr400 Transcend 2.5- 4750/-
80 GB Hitachi SATA2- 3100/-
BIG6600GT 128MB- 8840/-
LiteOn combo- 2000/-, Getting Sony DRU810A too... soon.
Samsung 997DF- 12500/-
Logitech std k/b- 250/-
Microsoft wheel mouse optical- 800/-
Powersafe 450- 2300/-
iBall grabit without PSU- 1100/-, will be replaced by Antec3000B this week!!
( with the system on, all i hear is fans whirring at full speed, maybe PSU ones!! hope Antec takes care of that!!)
Powercom 600VA UPS- 1850/-

getting the Zalman or Altec headphones in a day or two.

The 1st thing my friends did after setup was to install Quake3, conect it via LAN to a Ferrari 4000 and spend a decent one hour FRAGGING each other!!

ALSO, installed original heatsink as it is, but am thinking of using Arctic Silver AS5 or somethig similar! Will it help, is it safe and how much improvement? Wot do you'll recommend?
Proc said 43-44 C idle? Wot do you u guys recommend for cleaning original paste ? where do iget it?
Tube is single processor use or can be used on 2 CPUs? i.e. will one tube suffice me and my friend or do we need one tube each?

Pray that my PC runs Glitch free coz of late, i havent been very lucky with electronic stuff!!
Will be in Hospital by 2nd week of NOV2005 for a Mega surgery, so PC has to be final before that!!
Wish me Good luck!!

Thaking you,
Yours sincerely,
BIKEY.

SATA 2 was no worth it , SATA 1 wud have saved ur money.
Also Save some money by getting a Benq DW 1640 not the Sony DVD Writer.

Reg the powersupply making that sound its common i feel with powersafe.

Overall a nice config.

The stock stuff is enough, I wouldnt recommend unnecessarily messing around with the thermal paste. You'd see more improvement with a better heatsink + better thermal paste.

Arctic Silver lasts for quite a number of CPU uses. You use only a drop of arctic silver, and the tube has enough for quite a number.

This October heat is killing me and i hope it doesnt mess with my pc!!
No AC at my place plus quite hot too!!
wot s/w do i use to monitor cpu temp and other stats the way you'll do?
Just in case i want to invest in a better heatsink and fan for cpu, wot do you recommend?

Since its an Asus board, use the software they've provided - "PC Probe" , to monitor your temps/stats. 43-44C Idle temps sounds good enough, but temps during a good load session of Prime95 is what you should be monitoring. Check up on that and post back here.

Also your temps/stats will change again once you get your new PSU and case, so no point making any drastic changes right now.

Needless to say A64s run pretty cool, so you shouldnt really worry too much about cooling unless you're overclocking. If you want to further reduce temps/power draw, you can activate AMD's "Cool n Quiet" (again the software should be included with your Asus board, however it is strongly recommended against using this while overclocking).

Congratulations Bikey Boy... And good luck with the surgery coming ahead... Also no need to buy some exotic cooling... Use the stock for sometime and then decide...

hi!!
new isues but dunno if sensible!!
my ASUS pc probe says PS450 giving only 11.712 on 12v line.
something wrong with PSU??????
Should i get replacement????
Getting 4.99 on 5v, 3.264 on 3.3v and vcore at 1.392v
CPU@39 C at startup
41 C after 2hrs of chatting
47 C just after exiting 3hrs of Quake3 and returns to 41 C in 7 mins idle.
Temps as per asus pc probe
also CPU fan spins at 5818 rpm all the time. power fan at 5625.
How do i chk if cool&quiet is ON? shouldn't cpu drop to 800/1000Mhz when idle???
I am going to need a lot more GUIDANCE from u guys not to be labelled GUY DUNCE!!!!

sometimes PCProbe might be wrong.

Check the temps using other softwares also.

To check if cool n quiet is enabled , u can do it throught BIOS.
Also if u want to overclock ur sytem in future Cool n Quiet must be disabled.

Your 5V and 3.3V looks ok.

Also ask Funky since he also has the same PSU.

i forgot to mention one very imp thing!!
when my pc was started the very 1st time, BIOS setup showed cpu speed at some 4069Mhz. we exited and did a restsrt. it showed 1825 this time.
Now it is at 1800.
does that mean anything or is it same for all 3000s?????
And thank you very much Quad!!
Youn too switch!1 wot wud i do without you guys!!

New probs!!

PC doesn't beep when started!! Never noticed it!!:ashamed:
Since day one!!:ashamed:
Cabby Speaker connected to mobo, so maybe it is faulty or something!!:@
Will disconnect it and chk if mobo speaker beeps on startup!!:S

Also, Microsoft wheel mouse optical light not going off after shut down!!:(
Hav to switch off UPS!!:(
Faulty mobo or PSu or what??
How do i check whats wrong??
Plan to reassemble in new antec cabby this weekend!!

Also, what is the Qfan contoller setting in BIOS!!
Right now its at default- Disabled!!
Wot should i do?? Keep it disabled or Enable!!

Also getting aN APC ES650 UPS from a pal!!
Is it better than my Powercom IND600VA!!
Does it hav Lan Surge protection like the powercom??
Will sell my Powercom toa frnd who's planning to buy a Powersafe UPS and buy the APC if you say so!!

1st thing. None of these are any serious problems. Actiually some of them are not problem at all.

3000+ is suppose to run @ 1800Mhz So what its doing now is perfect.

About the voltage rails being reported low. That happens with PC probe. It many times reports wrong voltages.

The mouse light being on all the time is not a problem. you must have turned on the power on PS2/USB device option somewhere. Actiually i remember it used to stay lighted on A8N SLI Dlx all the time.

Qfan control controls the FAN speed according to the temperature readings. Personally i like fans to work at full speed all the time. If you want silent operation when your system is not under stress then turn it on. Otherwise leave it off.

About beep at startup. It could very well be case of mismatch polarity. its easily possible that its been connected opposit to the connector on the motherboard. Simply slip it over and connect it again. If it does not give the beep after doing that the small speaker may be faulty or soldered wire may have come off the speaker.

nothing too much to worry about there.

About the startup BEEP - ASUS have stopped this BEEP in some of their BIOS versions - on my ASUS P4C800ED board this BEEP was supported in earlier BIOS versions but last year ASUS decided to do away with this noise polution and its been silence ever since - the first BIOS of my board used to give one startup BEEP and then BEEP once for every USB decive asttached - lets see how many BEEPS I would get today with that BIOS :) ..... one mouse - one USB HUB - 2 External USB drives - USB Scanner - APC power management via USB - that makes 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 = YES 7 BEEPS !!! I could play Do Ra Me with these many BEEPS !! :D

Anyways if you want to confirm that the speaker is working remove the display card OR the ram and start the computer and it should BEEP.

About the mouse light - my MS Explorer 3 mouse light stays lit and my Logitch MX500's light goes off - go figure - take this as a good indicator that power is still going thru your system - this helps when you are going to open your case to work inside. When the power is switched off by pressing the front case button the power is not fully switched off but the comp is in a sort of sleep mode - to completely stop current flow the line has to be switched off from the PSU or UPS or wall socket. I have heard of many dead MoBos because the power to the board was not fully switched off before a screw driver was used inside the case and this created a short circuit. TAKE CARE !!

Like FM said QFan is for auto control of fan speeds taking into account the case temps. I have this feature on my board - instead of this I controll my Zalman HS's fan with the controller that came with it. But QFan does no harm AFAIK so put it on if you feel like - atleast in Mumbai's COLD Winter it will slow down the fan a bit and reduce Mumbai's noise pollution.

I use an APC 800 UPS on my main comp and a Powercom 600 on my second computer. The Powercom is a nice little UPS and I have used this brand on and off for at least 10 years - they have never let me down....... so far. But now with the low prices of the APC and their fantastic after sales service I will in future only buy APC UPSs... world class product and world class service.
I have a question for an Electroics savvy person here...... is it necessary to have a dual pole wall switch to completely power of the computer ? As I have seen a MoBo's green LED light up even with a single pole wall switch being used to turn off power ? (I had checked the wiring - the switch was on the positive wire and it was operating fine) I changed the wall switch to a 2 pole one and all was fine after that. Is a 2 pole switch a must or was there some current leakage on the computer where I saw this ?
