Android [Help] New phone, yet old smses keep popping up in notification

I just set up a new phone, motog4 + , i used some sms back restore app to transfer sms from old phone, now whenever i receive an sms i receive notification for all the old smses , even three year old smses pop up in notification .

I clear messenger app data but that did not fix the issue .

Select all messages and mark all as read.

There was no option to mark as read , but force stopping messenger app fixed it , i was about to factory reset it .

Perhaps your SMS account has been configured in Hangouts - check that once

Disable sync settings in hangouts. Clear the cache in your messaging app . Then delete the messages one by one . Restart your phone and check ...If the problem remains let me know
