CPU/Mobo Help on core components.

I'm planning on a system upgrade soon. I'm currently on an AGP-Based machine and I want to upgrade to PCI-Express. I'm a gamer so I want a decently powered CPU + Mobo + RAM + HDD combo. I have alloted about 15k-20k for the upgrades. I won't be buying the graphics card now though. Going to wait for the 8900 series to be released.

So please suggest to me a decently powerful CPU + Mobo + RAM + HDD combo for 15-20k.

I was thinking of AMD Athlon 64 x2 4800 + Asus M2N4-SLI + 2 GB Kingston + 160 GB Seagate. Would that fall within my budget? Or should I go for the Intel Core2Duo brand? Help please.

will u buy 2 gfx card? if not u dont need sli
1> c2d e4300 5.2k
asrock or asus 945g mobo 4.5k (asrock is cheaper i think)
ram 2 x 1gb ddr2 667 (for dual channel) 4.5 k
hdd 160 gb (no idea of price) ~ 3k
[prices at kolkata] total 17.2 k
the c2d will oc nicely and give performance equal to c2d 6600 ;-)
OR
2> amd x2 3600+ 3.4k
asus mobo [higher models](get jetway if u can) 6k
rest same total also approx same or u can take a mobo at 5k and get
a larger hdd instead

i think you dont plan to OC incase you do the 3600x2 is a good buy also.

the 4800x2 - 8.5 k

m2n4 sli - 5.5 k

1x2gb ram kingston 667 mhz - 3.2k

160gb hdd - 2.5k

falls within 20k

but i would suggest u get this.

E4300 - 5.3 k

asus p5nsli - 7.5 k

2gb ram - 3.2k

hdd 160gb - 2.5k

gpu - 7100gs or something for 2k

thing is you can take the the e4300 @ stock cooling upto 2.4 2.5 ghz without any trouble and i will be much faster than a amd counter partthen, incase you dont want to oc the configuration then i think you should settle with the onboard graphic of amd and wait for your gpu. but if you dont plan sli get your self a cheaper amd mobo the biostar if you can find at 4.5k is a good buy. or the amd m2n mx at 3.5k .

dasgupta beat me to it. :)

I've never OC'ed anything in my life, so yes, I don't plan on overclocking. I heard that the 3600 X2 is a great buy, if you're into overclocking, but since I can't OC, it's pretty pointless buying that processor. So, in case I get a 3800+ X2, an Asus Board, 2 Gigs of RAM and a 160 GB HDD, and in the future if I add an 8900 GTS/GTX, will the GPU get bottlenecked by the CPU?

AMD Athlon 64 x2 4800+ = 8.5k

Asus M2N4-SLI = 5.6k

2 x 1GB Kingston DDR2 667MHz = 3.4k

160 GB Seagate = 2.5k

buy a X2 4800+ minimum if you don't want to OC & want to use a 8900GTS/GTX when it releases :)

you had already chosen great components totaling to exactly 20k :p

no use going for a Core 2 Duo system in a 20k budget

^^^ yep, for a non OC'er its a good config, thought the 4800+ was cheaper tho, wasnt it??

on a sidenote, get urself a bigger HDD, 320Gigs for 4200 and 400 Gig for 4800, 160GB HDD is so last yr :bleh:

Hmmm. After some talk with my dad, budget has been lowered to 15k ONLY. :( So I can't go for the X2 4800+ setup. :(

Anyways, if I do overclock, how far can I push an X2 3600+/X2 3800+ ? Can I push it to a speed so that it doesn't bottleneck the 8900 GTS/GTX?

Suggestions now since we're working with a very tight budget?

if you have a 15k budget buy a X2 3600+ Brisbane 65nm 1.9GHz for 3.5k

it will easily OC to 2.5GHz with the stock cooler & thus won't bottleneck the 8900GTS/GTX

yep, get the 3600+ for 3.4K (make sure u get the brisbane, has 1MB L2 Cache and runs at 1.9Ghz, the Windsor core runs at 2.0Ghz so check the box before u buy)

get the motherboard u r interested in, should be able to OC to around 2.5 - 2.6 Ghz easily on stock cooler

But the problem is, I have no clue on this overclocking thing - is it easy to push it to 2.5 Ghz for an overclocking n00b like me? :bleh:

Hmm, yep, since we're working with a tight budget here I think I'll be going for AMD Athlon 64 x2 3600+ / Asus M2A VM / 2 GB Kingston 667 Mhz / Seagate 320 GB combo

buy Asus M2N4-SLI for 5.6k or Jetway M2A692-GDG for 3.5k

don't buy anything else

there are enough people to help u on te and loads of reviews here n there.

get your self this

amd 3600x2 + asus m2nmx or Jetway M2A692-GDG - 6.8 k

2gb ram - 3.3 k

hdd - 4.9 k 400 gb hdd

15k done :)

go with the cofig 200mph suggested, but watever u do, dont get the asus m2a if u wanna OC

yes a noob can OC with a lil help and practice

yep and so is the Jetway 690G; get any of em

but since u r not going the discrete graphics card way, would suggest that you get yourself the Jetway 690G; way better graphics then m2nmx tho not as good as any low low end discrete solution (6200TC)

I'm not going to be doing any gaming until I purchase a PCI-Express graphics card, :)

Right. This is what I've decided to get in 2-3 days. Or whenever I get the cash, max 1 week.

AMD Athlon 64 x2 Brisbane 3600+ @ 1.9 Ghz - 3.5k

Asus M2N4-SLI Socket AM2 ATX Motherboard - 5.5k

Kingston 2 GB PC2-5400 DDR2 Memory @ 667 Mhz - 3k

Seagate 120 GB 7200 RPM HDD (Will add a bigger HDD when I get my GPU) - 2k

Total ~ 14k

I'm going in for the Asus M2N4-SLI as for some reason I prefer ATX over mATX :bleh:

Anyways. A question. I heard that Transcend JETRAM sticks which run at 800 Mhz are pretty good, any idea how much they cost? Or should I just stick with Kingston?

kinstons and transceds cost nearly the same some 100 bux difference either way usually

one little thing u missed, the motherboard u picked up, no onboard graphics so u'll need a temp gpu for the mean time like the sub2k 6200TC

Nah man I don't want to add a low-end solution now dude, will get a better graphics card somewhere down the line :) I mean I can run the PC with the parts I just mentioned right :)

dude what are you talking . its got no graphics , means no vga port how can u run the pc without the screen getting display ? lolz . u will have to buy a low end gpu if u want that else get the board we suggested you.
