Today morning all of a sudden after I restarted my PC from hibernate mode, my sound stopped working. There is no audio device installed as per the Sounds and Audio Device popup.

I have a Asus A8NE mobo having onboard sound and I did not change any drivers at all. I've tried uninstalling the reinstalling the drivers. Disabling and enabling the audio option in BIOS, etc. but to no avail.

Can someone help me with this? Can someone having a similar mobo and using onboard sound also confirm what do they see under Sound Video Game Controller in Device Manager.

I do not have nVidia nForce audio codec in the list. Try as I may (installing various nForce drivers), I cannot get that item in the list?

How do I check whether the onboard port has gone bust or not? Unfortunately I don't have a spare sound card to test this.

i got the same board.....had blown the audio IC...same prob as urs...cudnt find nythin useful no drivers bios tweaks, nothin helped....cudnt see the multimedia audio controller in DM...got a soundcard isntead...

Hmmm...looks like it has busted - unfortunately there is no way to confirm this - is there?

I think most chip/ digit dvds are live or have a live ISO. Sorry for not being clearer about what I meant. My bad.

If you purchased it 2 years back you could still try contacting ASUS, they can try to help you out, If you are in Mumbai, you could go down to there center at Lammy, they might help you out

Unfortunately it's been more than 3 years now. A few months back my onboard LAN had also busted up.

What are the chance of busting a mobo due to a bios flash? Any link to some comprehensive manual for flashing a bios?

not worth it usually. make absolutely sure that the problem is not with your OS

Honestly, I tried as many things as i am capable of. Will try some more, but i guess plan B would be to get an audio card. I already have an onboard PCI-E card for video and a PCI LAN card. I think I do have slots for a separate sound card (most probably the cheapest value card - Audigy value maybe)

Managed to get hold of a old Digit DVD - which has Linspire. Can I try booting from this one? At what point do I quit as I don't want to mess up my existing Windows OS (have not reinstalled since the last 5-6 years and am very proud of it).
