So my dad has finally started scolding me for not having a website of the store. I need to put one up quickly. Now i am a complete noob at this.

Few questions:

I just want a basic website with few pages and not a webstore:

Home

About us

Prodcuts

Product A

Product B

Product C

Current Promotions(Want this to be a dynamic page which i can change at my end)

Gallery

Client List

Contact Us along with a google maps showing our location

Now how much should this cost if i get it designed and how much would it cost to get my website listed with Google. Also how much would it cost to get the google ads.

TIA

Basic cost would be registering your domain + hosting + designing.

Listing your website with google is free, google adsense is also free and you get paid too.

For basic designing, you can visit/contact Welcome to Amirish Asia

He is my close friend and he is starting with his designing studio, so you should be able to get a good deal compared to other web designers.

Cost of building website depends entirely on the company.
A small firm will do it for 4k whereas an established firm will charge upwards of 10k.

Listing your site on google is free. ( if you mean thier search directory). If you want to advertise then again it depends on Keywords and how many impressions, clicks, etc you want. Btw when you buy hosting from godaddy they give you 25$ worth of AdWords.

Btw if you don't have very specialized needs i would suggest you to download one of the Online Stores Scripts that are available for free on net. You can then get it customized ( design, code, etc) for a very small fee.

Most of the so called newly established website studios do a shoddy job of creating things for you.

Do check OfficeLive. They offer some basic templates bases sites + a domain name for free. You can always move to a paid one if your bandwidth requirement becomes high. Check the link in my sig for the same.

Also I think you are refering to giving your name as ad in Google right?

Here, is to get your website done.

* register domain.

* get hosting space: lowest package of any linux based hosting should be good. like 250mb space with 5GB and above bandwidth should be more than enough for your requirements.you can domain + hosting from www.godaddy.com or www.namecheap.com

* Make a website: I would suggest using a CMS like Drupal. Drupal is flexible and very powerfull and biggest advantage is, that its very easy to manage. you yourself can make a website without any coding/design skills using drupal. its very easy.

Want to see how you can do it, check this video:

* Then Use SEM and SEO for its promotion

Hope it helps

Drupal has a large community backing that will help you out in any of your problems. Also, there are thousands of templates available, which you can use or customize to your needs. So, if you want to try and design your site yourself using Drupal, it should cost you nothing other than hosting and domain charges.

What you want is basic and simple.. download a cms of your choice, get a template, create a basic site that u can edit anytime u want, also some hosts offer website builders with templates....

Switch.........it depends on the branding you are looking at.

Using templates that are commonly available for free is not a good idea for a business. You are diluting your brand by doing that.

If you are ready to spend a bit, I can get you in touch with designers who have worked with top national and international brands.

Very good suggestion. You stole my words. Another alternative i'd like to suggest is going DotNetNuke, this i also a fairly decent CMS, plus it is dotnet and finding a .net developer is much easier thn finding someone who's ever done Drupal. DNN also has a large community base to support you and a lot of freely available templates to get you started. DotNetNuke > Development > Downloads

Just building a pretty site is only part of the work and listing with google is not enough, you need to list it with every major search engine out there, and you need to list it regularly so that your site comes up in the first page of a related search. It does no good if people are searching for instance with Google and your site relevance comes up on the 4th page or higher. Meta-tags and keywords are very important, these are special tags that are written into the page code that are invisible and provide the search engines information about your site and how to categorize it for people searching for information related to your company.

You want to have someone that is experienced in SEO (Search Engine Optimization) help you after the site is finished if you really want the site to be successful. :)

+1 to drupal or some other CMS. Drupal is pretty simple yet powerful. can roll out a fully functional site in a matter of hours :D

yeah...get a domain registered at Godaddy.com | Name.com ,get a good hosting package.

And install a good shopping cart script. That should be fairly easy. With a script u can add items, remove 'em,add discount coupons, number of items etc,all this can be done by a "n00b".
