Hello everyone on TE,

I'm posting this thread to get ideas from TE'ians regarding a business setup that I want to promote.

I have a setup of 6-8 PC's running in an Office(registered to a reality business :P).

Earlier I used to get some people and make them do some data entry work. In the past 2 years 2 guys came with work and left without ever making a payment. So I totally don't believe in these guys who bring data entry work just to scam you off.

I cant open a cafe/gaming cafe as it has been prohibited by the owner of the building + some licensing issues. Currently me and other 2 friends are working on Mturk as it offers a lot of variety also as it's very varied. Those familiar with mTurk know that not everyone can work on it, so we cannot get more people to work on it :P.

I'm putting up this thread to get ideas on what all work can I do/get. If anyone knows a reliable data entry/outsourced job/Call Center(just saying) contact you can share that here or PM me too.

There are many call centers that are outsourcing you can try contacting them too.

But wait for more replies from TE gurus.

I'll be asking other data entry companies in Vashi etc. for some work. Apart from that I'm thinking of emailing clowdcroud for some crowd-sourcing work. Any other ideas guys?

That's a good idea but they'll ask you for prior experience and registration before handing out a contract to you. Like I said before wait for replies from TE's more experienced members.

Companies which pay you for data entry normally don't outsource for more than $2-4 approx per hour. And you need to keep your margin, pay the operators, pay overheads, rent etc within this budget. So within 5-6 people you will barely make any money.

Number of people will increase to >15 after 1 month(we'll try it ourselves first), and we're going to work in day-night shifts, but I still need a right track to work on. Common people I'm sure many here on TE have experience in this sector and have a huge idea base too.

P.S. - We are going to start the work in Seawoods (Navi-Mumbai).

Web designing requires skills and training which we don't have. Apart from that there are 2 really good web designers at stones throw distance from our location :( . I appreciate your idea :) and the same idea had once crossed my mind too.

Well, you can get skilled employee's if you get clients/business in that sense. :)

Anyway....mmm.....what about DTP?? Video Editing?? Ohh...what about Technical Support?? Like iYogi does??

It's can be voice or like support guy's. Many big companies like IBM do with iYogi, assigns a company to provide support for their products both voice in preliminary stage and support guy visit for advance situations.

Actually it works in this manner as far I know.

But can't comment anything in business sense as I don't have any idea about it. Max. I can say is it works like Vendors.

IBM will pay you a huge amount and from that you'll provide salary to your employees.

As you can see many peoples says I work in IBM, Wipro etc. but they are actually not, because they are not under the Payroll of IBM / Wipro / something.

Thanks for the info on customer support related work,

There are many Forms filling kind of data entry work too, where does one get a contract for the same and how do we apply for it?

With data entry you can have a turn over of around 15-20k per month per employee.

Let us assume that your costs including overheads, employee salaries etc is 10k per month.

You still earn 5-10k per month per employee with which you have to pay the rent and rest is profit.

So if you have 20 people, you will be able to earn around 50k per month after paying rent, perhaps!

But the kind of opurtunity cost involved makes you go into a loss.

If you need to spend 50k on rent for example and manage a team of 20 workers all by yourself, 20 full time workers that is, then your net profit before taxes after paying all expenses should be at least a few lacs, which is very very difficult to achieve if you don't have any skill!

We are not paying any rent as the shop belongs to someone I know. And for the first few months(2-3) we wont be registering as a company and all the employees will be payed in cash. Everything with the employees will be as transparent as possible since they are good friends we know.

I would say just give out the shop on rent unless you have a better idea than plain data entry without any special contacts.

You will need to work like mad full time and things may come up only if you are lucky.

Data entry doesn't pay much.

And till when will your friends work 8x5 hours a week for 5k per month? Even one month, I don't think so!

there are few fine line in data entry contracts that u need to be aware of

1) no of pages per day target

2) data accuracy of approx 95%+, below that you dont get paid for that page

this any many more conditions and not meeting any of then could cost you to loose your money.

This might sound "What?" but setting up a business of ticketing agent would also help you make good business. I've plenty of my clients having 10-15 computer registering into company's like Justdial, Sulekha, they forward you leads & you make business without adding marketing guys cause anything else like web designing, data operator, call center would require marketing guy to sign or bring in contract. hope this helps.
