hay guys... seems like ill be buying the entire setup again...(old setup goin to cuz if anyones womderin)
so Ive decided to take an Opteron 170 this time .. which i wont be overclocking rt away..but after learning few things i may in future....
however ... keeping future overclockin in mind i havent been able to decide wt the rest of the system should be...
my budget is 45k excluding monitor, chasis, speaker, keyboard&mouse, dvd roms, grafics card....
45 to 47k for the inside stuff.... so ill need to fit all these in my budget
0.proccy - Opteron 170
1.motherboard - ??
2.ram - ??
3.power supply - ??
4.harddisk - ?? (have decided to get Western Digital Caviar SE 250GB -7200 rpm guess it has that 16mb cache.. is it good enuf?)
oh and also please suggest a good 5.1 channel headphones.. if that can fit in my budget.. i havent used a 5.1 headphones at all :( ...so wanted to see one...:)

p.s -
1. and please do suggest wt a good stepping should be and how to check a good stepping... i have no experiance in shuch stuff.... so i want to be sure when i decide to overclock it wont be a problem.... hope u guys getting my point
2.if ive forgotten to include anyhting important please feel free to add in ...
thanx ...

PSU --- Antec NEOHE 500 wats

Mobo ---- DFI NF4 Ultra D.

RAM --- 2 GB of Micron 5BD

And go for a Hitachi 250GB. Somehow, I would trust Hitachi more than WD

Why's that?

ive been running a WD 250GB Flawlessly for the past year now.

and past 3 years for my 160GB WD, on the 2nd PC.

Motherboard- DFI Lanparty Nforce 4 Ultra D 8.5k
RAM- 2X1GB Transcend UCCC or 5BD chips 8k (check vigneh's post in market section for 5BD)
PSU - Antec Neo HE 500/ TP2 550/ Zebronics 640W PSU 6-7k
2X250GB HDD's (whicheve brand u decide on) in RAID 0 - 5.5kX2
Also which soundcard are u using? 5.1 headphones not sure abt availability but i think Zalman is available for like 1.8k or so. Check for the review in the review section. Not sure abt other brands, waiting for more ppl to post abt those.

Edit: Forgot that the proccy was also supp to be in the budget :P In that case either go with a single 250 GB HDD or two 120/160 GB disk's in RAID 0.

I dont suggest 500 GB in RAID 0. There are more chances of HDD getting corrupted in RAID -0. So, better buy a 36 GB WD Raptor and then buy one 400 GB HDD.

I say 36GB raptor coz it is the smallest and cheapest raptor and 36 GB is more than enough for OS and some of your games.

Hey redscorpy,
Definetly go for dfi nf4 ultra-d if u are goung for opty 170.
Opty 170 at lammy is 20500/-
dfi is 8500/-
Ram-transcend uccc 1gbx2 - abt 8k
Smps-well u can opt for powersafe 600w if u are low on budget for abt 5k.
Believe me it is good, see my rig below,on top of that connected 2 120mm(140cfm) fans and 3 sunon 80mm fans(35cfm).
Ran prime 95 and occt on both cores giving 100% load on both cores and the 12v rail was rock steady at 11.97v given that i am currently at 2.6ghz oc.

hmmm.. ok thanx guys
i think ill go for 250gb hard disk.. but still deciding between the WD (16mb cache) and the Hitachi which nikhil mentioned... btw.. does the 16mb cache makes a lot of difference in games?
also about sound card.. i thot the motherboard will have a good enuf onboard soundcard... or will i need to buy one?..

the onboard sound is decent. If you are going to connect a set of high end speakers, then it is recommended that yoi get a good soundcard like an X-fi or at least a Soundblaster Live! 24 bit. But according to the latest info. that is out of production. SAo you can buy the Audigy LS. or LE. I forgot :P

mmm.... i wont be getting any speakers... they are too bulky for me.. besides.. thats why i was hoping to get a 5.1 channel headphones.. so that i can have the 5.1 experiance without the bulkiness of speakers...
thanx anyway.... ill look for some good ones in lammy..

The SB live 7.1 24 bit is still pretty much avaliable, at least here in blore. Its a good buy for 1.7k and will be a lot better than the onboard sound. Also a lot of people have complained of low volume when using 5.1 headphones with onboard sound(the rear sound output is not very high be default iirc, check the Zalman 5.1 review, its been discussed there). U might want to consider that as u plan to get 5.1 headphones.

ok ... thanx....
so heres wt ive decided... hope it fits in my current budget...
1. AMD Opteron 170 -
2.DFI Lanparty Nforce 4 Ultra D
3.1GB Transcend UCCC chips (another 1gb later)
4.Hitachi 250GB HDD
5.SB live 7.1 24 bit + Zalman 5.1ch Headphones...
6.Power Safe 600watts PSU

heh totalling to 47k ... sweet.. :ohyeah:
hope this is good enuf... :P

Honestly Speaking... Get a 165 if you are planning to overclock... The 165/170 will just about go the same range when overclocked :P... Why waste extra 4K cash when you can buy another GB of UCCC right now :)...

^^Yea i agree with Switch, if u do want to OC get a 165. And plus if u go for 1 GB now, assuming ur going to buy 2X512 MB , when u want to upgrade later to 2 GB it wouldnt be good to get 4X512 MB. It would be better to run 2X1 GB in dual channel mode. But the rest of the stuff seems fine.

uhh... crap i m confused agian...
i was opting for 170 as i thot it had the base speed of 2.0 mghz...
well wt the heck.. ill buy the 2x1gb ram now only.. i guess i can chip in 4k somehow... :P
ive made up my mind :P ... no more confusions...
oh and thanx again guys...

hmmm... forgot to ask one important thing... wt about the steppings...
wt stepping should i look for when buying the opty170...
is there any particular range...or i can trust the dealer to give me a good one..?

ccbwe 0550 upmw/vpmw they are great overclockers.
then comes 0551,dont buy 06xx ones, heard their oc capability is very mediocre from many forums.

Nice going, ur set to have one hell of a rig. I just wanted to ask u one more thing, what monitor are you going to run this on?
