Hello Friends,

I have LG DS9533 DVD player from last 3 yrs. Now from past 4-5 months it starts giving strange problem.

It didn't read any disk & display "NO DISC" message both on TV & on DVD Display itself.

For a try I unscrew upper cover of DVD & it work flawlessly but stop as soon as place the cover back.

One local technician asked to change LENS that cost from 350/- onwards depends on quality.

Please suggest me that whether the problem is with LENS or anything else?

If need to replace LENS which NEW LENS (suggest best brand/quality) should I ask him to replace with faulty one?

Waiting for reply.

Have you tried using a lens cleaner?

Something like this : Amazon.com: CD/DCD/LD/DVD Laser Lens Cleaner with Liquid Case Pack 12: Electronics

You should have tried the above before attempting to remove the upper section of the dvd player.

And please don't play any disc with the player's upper section off, chances of being exposed to the laser.

If all fails, give it to a qualified technician and get the lens changed.

Good quality lens does come at a price.

LENS Price? Any specific Brand?

Every technician turn bad if you don't know what type/quality replacement product he used with. :(

+1 for the lens cleaner. I have the LG DS9443 and I do use a lens cleaner kit from time to time.

Sorry, I'm not sure.
You'll just have to trust the technician. :(

Out of warranty & I'm sure they will charge hefty, my friends was quote Rs.1250/- by sony service center to change Motor.

Shown to local technician- he think motor gone kaput.. asking price Rs.280/-

I call to my tech. friend in other city... he told motor cost Rs.40/- & I can change it myself... he is on move so no more talk...

So is it worth to try to change Motor myself? any one have experience of same?

Thanks

If your not comfortable with the DYI option, get it done by the technician for 280 bucks. Peace of mind.

But I suggest you confirm the problem first.

I took DVD to one big service center in my city, he checked & said "Requires to change LENS" but need to wait 7 or more days as they have lot of work.

Took to small repair shop he said "Need to check motor first as CD/DVD not spinning if motor is kaput it will cost Rs.280/- & if still problem not get solved than need to more investigation & will charge accordingly".

OK, I will not go with DIY.

Thanks for replies TTM & friends. :)

i thing is for sure the problem is related to the lens.

try using good quality lens cleaner i hope it sorts out your problem but if it doesn't then you might have to change your lens.
