Hi All,

The laptop which I have is my company laptop and NOT my personal so many things might be blocked and I need your help in unblocking those things:)

  • My laptop was initially working fine and playing 1080p videos without any issues. There were no drivers installed initially though.
  • Later I wanted dual monitor support so was forced to install the drivers given by my company.
  • The Intel drivers which they gave looked like they were for XP but after confirming with them I went ahead and installed them. the installation gave me some error towards the end but when I restarted I could see the dual monitor options etc so I was happy and never really bothered.

Now comes the problem:

  1. When I play any movie; The movie stutters at full screen. even 10mb 480p movies and u tube movies
  2. I am unable to uninstall the drivers as I don't find the options in control panel
  3. The graphic memory is showing as 0MB !!!!:(
  4. I checked in BIOS but there are no options to increase shared memory. I have double-triple checked this.
  5. Moreover; I tried installing ATI and Nvidia drivers earlier which I uninstalled and cleaned from registry earlier.
  6. I have also tried DXVA with MPHC but Media player itself does not work giving me sore directx error:(
  7. GPUz and CPUZ screenshot attached for your guys reference.

I think if I can just increase the graphic memory then I may be able to play the movies.

Laptop Specifications:

Make and Model: Toshiba Portege M900 Signature Series

Processor: i5 gen 1 520m

RAM: 3GB

HDD: 250GB

Graphics: Intel HD processor

HDMI and VGA out present in the laptop

Thanks mate....

The actual model number has been rubbed off by wear and tear at the backside:(

Also, I did download the intel HD drivers from toshiba website but they did not install on my laptop and gave some error.

I could see this written at the back of the laptop though: Pa3750u-1btm. Could be a model for some other item in the laptop:(

EDIT:

I could see the details of the laptop mentioned here

I just scanned the PC using intel site itself and got the below:

I have contacted my toshiba representative for my company but this is quite weird:(

Uninstall the driver given by the company and download & install the generic driver and check. IMO, it should work. Also, check the driver date to see if it is outdated too.

You could also try VLC Portable[http://portableapps.com/apps/music_video/vlc_portable] if you do not have admin rights, else try VLC. Then you will know whats the problem. Also use the latest versions in either case.

Initially before the company gave me the drivers; I tried the generic drivers but got a straight error. Also, now I am unable to uninstall the drivers. I think the drivers have not installed properly:(

I have tried Vlc portable but no result:(

I am the admin in my laptop, I have full access on everything.

@Jerin...Can't reinstall the OS. Have a lot of custom stuff that I had to do and I don't wanna waste time doing it again (IT takes 2 days for reinstall, and I would require another 2-3 days for my workspace, etc)

@Metal...My Kanjoos company does not even give a decent laptop forget about MBP:)...and I don't wanna buy one considering the other stuff I have already bought with my 20kg weight allowance:(:(

on another note: Since the $rate is up now...looking to sell of my iphone 4 at 550$ and get 4S from Singapore

some of their laptops have a HD graphics processor which upscales everything to HD, the driver related to this might be a problem. It does not lists such a processor for this model, but try working on this line. Toshiba has a habit of putting in a lot of customized drivers/softwares to add functionality, your problem might be directly related to Toshiba drivers.

Did you try making changes in safe mode ?

Another weird thing...When I am in dual monitor; all movies (even 1080p) plays perfectly on the 2nd monitor. I have tried switching the lappy and the 24" dell monitor as secondry and the video plays flawlessly in both.

so its looks like some settings issue rather than driver issue:(

yup...as I have mentioned in my first post; the GPU is the Intel HD processor.

Nopes, I did not try any modification in safe mode. the

Ok. Just go into safe mode, do nothing except for maybe click here nd there. Then go back to normal mode.

It some times happens wid my PC monitor, Win& will start displaying it in 1024x768 resolution instead of widescreen. Maybe it works for you too !

just uninstalling the hardware device from device manager wont do the job. as the driver files still stay in the windows directory and evertime you start your pc, you will get the new hardware detected wizard.. look up the driver files from the properties box in device manager, take a list of the files, and delete each one manually.. then reinstall the drivers.. check the refresh rate on your primary display, see that any unsupported resolutions or refresh rates are not being forced by your GPU settings software.. (most cases the display goes blank and reverts to the old settings, but with some settings, it gets damaged.)

nopes mate...issue got resolved instantly... have not faced any issues what so ever:)....

just uninstalled and then reinstalled the new drivers...that's it...its been 1.5 months now and no issues

heh.. cool then.. the method i said is like a last resort.. becoz it once happened with my gpu drivers.. dont know why.. so i had to manually delete the mentioned driver files.. simply uninstalling and reinstalling does solve the problem.. but incase it doesnt, this methods gonna be useful if you're not interested in formatting the system.. :)
