Hi,

My Transcend Jetflash 500 4GB pendrive split into two today! I got it out of my bag and the two panels of the drive simply came off!
<

There is absolutely no breakage or cracks or nicks on the drive. It simply split from the seams joining the upper and lower panels of the drive!
<

It was purchased in 2010 and the Transcend Warranty Verification shows it was Manufactured in July 2010 and has Lifetime Warranty.

Can sumone please guide me for the RMA of the drive. Do I need the bill? Coz I fear that I may have misplaced it!

Will they refuse the RMA citing Physical Damage? It is not a very costly drive or anything like that... just that I expected better from Transcend!
<

OT: you have 8gb now
<
(2 4gb drive)

On a serious note i suspect the reply will be " Physical damage hai, we cannot do anything
<
"

First, if the pen drive is working properly, join the two pieces using a strong adhesive and forget about the matter. Its not worth going for RMA as Transcend has done some changes to their RMA policy.

^^ Yeah... I guess that will be their line...

^^ Yes, the drive is working fine. And it can be easily fixed using an adhesive.

But if I use an adhesive now and then the drive conks off (say like after 3 more months), then, I'll not be able to seek an RMA as then the drive would be one I have tampered with...
<

Also, this is more of a quality issue. I could have bought other cheaper pendrives like the Zipmem or XElectron for cheaper prices. I chose Transcend coz I expected better quality and this is what I get...
<

similar quality issue is there for most brands, even for ones like corsair. Once my older voyager 4gb had its components came off from the rubber housing completely while pulling it from a lappy's usb port.

btw, using adhesive isnt a bad idea, as in case of rma, they wont open up the drive mostly, and just replace it. SO use adhesive carefully and in small amounts so that it doesnt seems to be adhered from outside looks.

Just attach the two sides using good quality adhesive, forget RMA, as its physically tampered

Used Feviquick and it is up and running!
<

BTW, I really don't think that anyone can make out that it has been stuck using feviquick. Moreover, if it works for a year more, it would have already depreciated enough for me not to feel bad at it conking off!!

Thanx everyone...

i have my old transcend 2gb pen drive... when i plug it in i get the error that usb device not recognised... is there a way to solve it or can i rma it? it has lifetime warranty and i think i have the bill too

4gb pendrives cost what, 200 bucks ? just saying...

^^ Like I mentioned previously, it's not about the Cost, it is about the quality and I expected better from Transcend.

^^ Try fixing the drive using the Jetflash Online Recovery Tool. If that doesn't work, go for an RMA. As you have the bill, I see no reasons to let them go off even if it is just for 200 rupees. If all do this, it'll atleast give them a lesson in quality control.

My point was, for a 200 buck product it's simply not worth the trouble going through an rma process. And how are you so sure it wasn't your fault that the drive casing split? maybe it was knocked around in your bag too much. if i were you i would just stick the casing together and use it. like you already have.

If you wanna teach transcend a lesson though, that's another story. go right ahead!

^^ I wanted to teach Transcend a lesson... yes.

I didn't do it coz I didn't have my bill; it has been misplaced.

It was not my fault... the drive moving around in the bag cannot be an excuse for it breaking. What were they expecting? That I keep the drive in a safe deposit vault??
<

I have already stuck the 2 pieces and am using the drive. Most importantly, all of this was already mentioned by me in the previous posts....

^^ I think Transcend RMA is handled by Accel Frontline. But like vivek.krishnan said, it may not be so.

Check this thread for more details: http://www.techencla...e-details-here/
