Sounds like a threat the last part... doesn't work, they sell some 250 drives in the east zone daily (maharastra, goa etc) and cannot be concerned about one drive.....

Seagate or Samsung should be available there... for WD check the disti is neoteric I think...

ehh... 1 MB trust writu to g00f up... dadaa ki hochi..

btw how do ya tel if the drive is sata 2?? i saw the 320gigger yesterday..but nowhere was it written that its `s sata 2?? and it was the 16 mb buffer one.

)ST3320620AS)

The model# and/or the specs will tell you whether the drive is SATAII or not... take a look at this link for the drive in question - the data transfer rate is 3Gb/s, therefore it is a SATAII drive.

But, yes a BIG BUT :), SATAII is just the moniker for a SATA drive with 3GB/s transfer rate... you can read a bit more on that here.

sry my 6 is crapped out i measn keyboard.
its 16 mb so quickfire if u want it lemme know.
guys is it worth going for it? its costing me around 5400 here...

and chic i believe there are only sata2 version of the .10 series if you want to use it as sata1 use the jumper.

darn :/ i'll have to tell him to see that its written 3Gb/s right? to confirm that its the sata2 version? :)
btw the cost seems right? or grossly overpriced?

It's simpler to check that the model# is ST3320620AS - same as mine, which has a 3GB/s interface.

thats right... and the SATA 2 will tell u whether its 300 mbps or not. Although that's not the only feature of SATA 2 spec, it is one of the most publicised

btw OT but u could've written 'sixteen' instead of 1, lucky number plonked out eh :bleh:

hehe quicky u want the harddisk i'll get it to you if your from kolkata.
its available here but a bit pricey cost is 5400 i think. its the 1 mb version.

i went to the biggest trader in eastern bengal das electronics hes xdealer of almost everything and he said he'll get me precisely the singapore manufactured 1 mb model. for 5400 to 5500 i think.

is the price too high its around 5150 in chennai i think.

thanx x86

but 5.5k is a good 1.5k over my initial budget.

i think i'll get a 250GB drive for 3.9k

and btw, another question i wanted to ask...

do SATA drives require any diff. kind of power connector?

my PSU has only molex connectors. will it be enuf? :S

yeah sata drives require a different connector ...... but there are convertor which u can use ...... some sata drives also comes with molex connector as well as sata power connectors like hitachi .......

And what are the other specs that determine whether a drive is SATAII? :)

Small correction... it's 300MB/s and 3gbps... for SATA II

MB being Mega BYTE
gb being Giga BIT

This is the price in B'lore at the moment - This is for Sata I but I guess SATA II could be another 100 bucks more.

200 GB Serial ATA - 3660
250 GB Serial ATA - 3980
300 GB Serial ATA - 4900

plus 4% VAT

I would suggest going in for the 250gig drive... if you notice... there is a full 1k difference between the 250 and 300 gig drive while there is only a Rs. 320 difference between the 200 and 250 gig drive.

That's a lot of money for 50GB. Besides... most ppl are shopping for a new HDD once in 6 months... so an added 50 gig really doesn't make much difference... especially if you are paying at the rate of rs. 1000 for 50 gig.
Rate / GB
250 GB - Rs. 15.92
300 GB - Rs. 16.33

At present, if anyone is looking for a high capacity drive, I'd only recommend the 320GB 7200.10 drive for 5.1k...

well satan the ones you are saying are the 7200.9 ones.
quicky if your gonna buy one too i can talk with the dealer for getting a better deal out of it.

if a 7200.10 is around 5.1k in chennai around 5.4k here seems pretty decent knowing shipping costs involved while shipping it from chennai to here.what do you guys think? i'm going to order it tomorrow morning should i go for it?

Get the 320 parallel recording, it's worth the 1k diff, not just cos of the additional 70gb, but also 65mb+ transfer rates.

perpendicular and parallel are different rite ??

perpendicular = T upside down

parallel = I I

how can the technology be d same then ??

the technology being used for harddrives is longitudinal recording(the conventional old method)......

longitudinal recording is a type of recording data to a HDD in such a way that the data bits are aligned horizontally in relation to the drive's platter, which is parallel to the surface of the disk........

the new technology is know as perpendicular technology ........ Perpendicular recording differs from longitudinal recording in that data bits are aligned vertically (not horizontally) — or perpendicular to the disk, which allows for additional room on a disk to pack more data, thus, enabling higher recording densities...........

i confused in perpendicular and parallel in my above post ....... i think thexfactor meant perpendicular where he said parallel

oh c'mon chill its more or less same as in words say :P
the newest ones
also dont forget 320 gb = 2 platters :D!!
