okie guys i hv decided to source either the seagate 320gb 7200.10 sata 2 16mb drive or the seagate 250gb 7200.10 sata 2 16mb one.

lets c what i get.

any approx idea of the prices of both ????

250GB will be 4k approx.

320GB will be 5.5k approx.

i've decided to get the 250GB one

since the cost per GB is lower compared to 320GB.

k..got the ST3250820AS for Rs. 3750/-
as evident from the model no. its a Seagate 250MB SATA drive with 8MB Buffer.
Its a Barracuda 7200.10 so, i suppose this drive has perpendicular recording.

do the maths..its easy
5000-3750 = 1250 :P

If you go by per GB cost, 250GB drive is cheaper
but if that drive has 16MB buffer, the price is justified.

where did you find it in Kolkata?

@Udit

Its available at all computer stores

The price everywhere is almost similar

Finally got it frm a store at GC Avenue

and chic i believe there are only sata2 version of the .10 series if you want to use it as sata1 use the jumper.

ya what jumper?? :S ... err the guy wouldnt let me open the pack.. so i couldnt really see.. anything.. though the connectors looked the same as sata ones.. :S

and it wasnt written 300 mbps or 3gbps on the drive eithe.r. all that was written was sata.. :S.. worst part is even those dealer dunno which is a sata or a sata 2 drive.. jeez. sheesh

I believe the 320gb comes in a antistatic bag, which should let you see wuts in it, besides the 320gb has the jumper on by default, that should make it run in SATA 1 mode, you are supposed to remove one of the jumpers to make it work in sata2 mode. Maybe this wil help...

ya it was in the anti static bag.. but still couldnt see the connectors(jumpers).. but ya it was the 320 gb 7200.10 .. so ya thats sata2.. for 5100... hmm

told ya .. its the jumper pin that makes it sata2 if enabled and if u remove it it works as sata1.
