I need help with replacing the Mikrotek UPS batteries . I find that the two

batteries (12V , 7.2Ah) are connected in series . I am confused if series

connection correct and the purpose of connecting batteries in series...

it is claimed that this particular UPS provides double back up time as it uses

double battery. from basic principles of Electricity/ Electronics, I remember

that this is possible if the batteries are connected in parallel. but here they

are in series connection...

thanking you in advance :)

Actually the inverter module inside this particular model is 24V version. So, two 12V battery gives 24V in series. Two 12V-7Ah battery in series acts like a 24V-7Ah bank, and in parallel they act as 12V-14Ah bank. In both cases the theoretical capacity is the same 12*14=24*7=168 VAh.

In 24V approach, the load ampere on the battery is 50% than the load ampere in 12V approach, so less heat is generated. H proportional to I square. So, only 25% heat produced as compared with 12V system.

Hence 24V system will run few minutes extra in addition to double capacity 12V system.

Hope that clears your confusion.
