that sure is weird :S .next time when it fails ,press ALT+F12 to see the fail log.

what it says?

mean time ,try the text based ubuntu cd.

is your motherboard very new one?which board?show me the link?

if ubuntu's 2.6.24 kernel dont have the driver for your hard disk controller ,I would say - rather go for newer distros with latest kernel like 2.6.26 or 2.6.25 .I think dreamlinux have?

Dreamlinux is still stuck at 2.6.22 :P

Well for starters you can try Mandriva 2009.0 RC2 [will be available in few days ,23 to be precise], else you can try openSUSE 11.0 :) 11.0 comes with Linux Kernel 2.6.2.5.x :ohyeah:

well ,in livecd mode Ubuntu(or any other distro) ,open a terminal and post the output of "lspci " -here..this is ,so that I can know your harddisk controller.

it is intel p45 ?think latest kernel can only support your mobo. :(

try again with setting into ide mode instead of AHCI mode in BIOS or vice versa.

well go to distrowatch.com and check for some good distro(debian based) which got 2.6.26 kernel available?
