Abt the "highest rainfall in a single day"
Just checked up todays' paper(well... yesterday's rather...).

First highest is Lakshadweep Island with 1168mm. 2nd, 3rd and 7th is Cherrapunji. 8th is the Mumbai downpour.....

Cherrapunji(2nd placed) had a bt 1000+ mm of rain. Will post a pic of that article when possible

Man, what couple of days.
I was at Andheri East. On a way back home at around 3PM it started flooding. I was near pump house area.
Water level rise to alarming levels in like 5 minutes. The rickshaw i was travelling in stopped working. I got out and in matter of 2-3 minutes huge wave of water came rushing in an i was in chest high water. Started walking twords higher grounds but the force of water was too much. 1 small girl got carried away with that flow in front of me and all we could do is watch.
There was no way to go twords highway or railway station from where i was. I started walking through the zopadpatti areas, completely soaked, with no mobile networks, all near landlined dead, no electricity anywhere. There were two unescorted small children which got seperated from their parents somehow. One was only 2 years old and other a bit older 12 yers old. took both of them with me as they were from the borivali area. Thankfully by then airtel network started working. Tried calling the children's mother with whome they were travelling but it was orange no and wasent working. called their home and thankfully phones in borivali were working and their father picked it up. I told him I will stay with children and try to get them to their home as by then all transport lines were dead. took some food supplies from open store and started walking twords borivali side again.
Somehow managed to join the highway near goregaon after 2 hours of walking with the small girl oon my back through waters only to see another river situation with absolutely no way to go past it as force was soo much that people had to leave their cars where they were and run for their lives. And cars, bikes, people getting washed away as if they were made of plastic.
Water was rising soo much that i decided to go onto flyover and stay put there and luckily i found my father stuck there on the bridge in his car. Now problem was water started rising alarmingly at the base of the flyover so i reversed my car over to the bridge and at the same time sort of huge 4 feet wave of water slammed cars at the end of flyover into eachother like bunch of toy cars.
By that time chilly winds started flowing with rain not stopping at all and i was all soaked and cramping badly due to walk in cold water for over 2 hours with that girl on back.
Thankfully we now had a car as a shelter and some food for the children.
Had to spend 12 hours at the same place and finally able to get cleared the next morning. Dropped the children to their homes in Yogi nagar and came home with all body paining and a fever and rash all over the body.
The situation in dahisar was even worse with the Dahisar river overflowing and rishing 12 feets. The building just 25 feet away from my house was in waters with all ground floor apartments in 5 feet water.
No electricity as local transformer blew. Electricity came back in the afternoon.
The worst part is out of 4 comps i have 2 are not working. Main switch was off even then it has fried my A8N SLI Dlx from main system. Thankfully CPU is ok.
It also fried my 2nd A8V dlx ( actiually my cousine's ) and 3200+.
The bummer to me is that my SMPS is ok, my Stabiliser is ok. My surge protector is ok but it still fried 2 PCs somehow located at different places.
Normally the surge kills the HDDs, SMPS, Stabiliser first.
In all 2 really bad days. The only good point it my venice is ok.

@Funky - u had a horrible time m8 , more horrible than me.

Also my comp was not working at all when i came home , i thought that
my mobo had also gone dead , later a cleaned my cabby interiors with a
brush removed and reinserted my ram , sound card , lan card and it started
working also i have no ups , not stabilizer only spike guard.

Also u reached home is what matters and ur family is fine.

My College Pics @ 3:00pm on Tuesday

Not "Almost", but "entirely".
;)

WOW.... That was one BAAAAD experience funky....

And I commend you on taking reponsibilty for the 2 kids.... Well done...

And guys, please take care not to sit in the car when water level starts rising. IT srises very fast and soon, it could be almost up till the windows of the car.

In that case, sometimes the doors and windows get jammed and you will be stuck in the car. That is not good as you could suffocate due to lack of oxygen after a few hours.

Take care guys, And bad luck abt your comps Funky.... but at least you are safe.... that is what matters. You and your family....

@TechHead --- So, you spent the night at a girsl hostel ?? Hmmm..... interesting......

Police sources said, of the 17 arrested, six persons were travelling in a car and found spreading rumours in the Subhashnagar slums and it is suspected that they were a bunch of thieves planning to loot houses after residents fled homes.

This is what I mean..... People who don't care for others' lives and just want to make a fast buck even in times of crisis.

Have you heard of this happening abroad?? When there was a terrorist strike or a calamity??

So Much for making Mumbai a Shangai!!!!........4 hrs of rain and the city is flooded, people are getting desperate 2 get 2 their homes and wht not.Think what will happen if a tsunami comes 2 Mumbai(God Forbid that may never happen)

Dude it was 30 hours of incessant rains. 1 metre of rain in a day. Do you realize how much that is? Hyderabad doesnt get half of that in a complete monsoon season. Its not a joke. Also about tsunami... its not really a possibility. There are no faultlines in the arabian sea. Its not seismically active as the east coast. Nor are there any known underwater volcanoes.

We in South mumbai were spared this freak cloud burst. south mumbai received just 1/10th of the rainfall in the suburbs.

Besides the sad and unfortunate loss of lives the damage to peoples homes (ground floor) and shops in some of the worst affected areas is mind boggling.
