Activists of a self-styled pro-Hindu moral brigade called Sri Rama Sene barged into a pub in the coastal city of Mangalore on Saturday and beat up young girls for "violating traditional Indian norms," police said on Sunday.At least two girls were beaten up and their hair pulled by the activists at 1600 hours IST on Saturday at the pub Amnesia – The Lounge in Mangalore, about 350 km from Bangalore.The young men accompanying the girls to the pub on the busy Balmatta Road were also assaulted when they tried to protect their friends.

Ten of the activists have been arrested by Mangalore police.From the accounts given by the eyewitnesses, who did not want to be identified, the girls were the target of attack.

About 40 men forcibly entered the pub claiming unethical activities were on inside.They began assaulting the young men and women who ran for safety. At least two of the girls started screaming for help as a man pulled their hair. Both the girls fell down but managed to flee from the attackers."We have arrested 10 people in connection with the incident. They all belong to Sri Rama Sene," Dakshina Kannada police superintendent N Sateesh Kumar told IANS from Mangalore, the district headquarters.Mangalore police confirmed the girls had suffered minor injuries.

How long has the pub been going ?

I did read that correctly, it was a 'pub' not some dancing bar.

There are lounges all over the country, why they pick on this one ?
 
So much for stopping cross border terrorism when our government(s) can't put an end to this sort of open terrorism. Even though 10 people were arrested, they will probably go free after a while due to political pressure or whatever reason. There should be a ban on all self righteous moral policing and violent religious fundamentalist groups like these.
 
I hate it when IDIOTS like this go about preaching INDIAN TRADITION/CULTURE.... WTF!!! I am sure all those who were inside the PUb were adults ..... And I am sure they can take their own decisions.... y are these D*ckheads are doing it for them!!! Indian CULTURE it seems.... Shameless fellows are calling themselves Sri "Ram" sene. People should be disgusted by the fact that they their religion is being hijacked by a group of perverts who enjoy assaulting women.

This is very serious and those fellows could be in for a long time if at all they are prosecuted. But, knowing the Mangalore police (who must be trying so hard to bury the case but can't since the NCW is involved and that fact that it is has become a national incident), it will be a while before action is taken.

I think(and hope) you may have made a mistake with your meaning. But to all those fellows out there who by any stretch of imagination think that this was justified, let me just say that a day will come when you yourself will be viewed as an outcast by these kind of people because you are too rich or too out of state or too modern or too whatever.

These kinds of divisive people prey upon any kind of difference in opinion you might have from their ideology and one day, you will be bitten by the same seeds of hate that you sow or encourage. They are only trying to derive political mileage out of this and you are but a pawn in their game. You may subscribe to some portion of their ideology but you need to recognize what is wrong from a humanitarian point of view.

For eg: tomorrow, they will try and dictate what you can surf, what you can download :bleh: etc. So, cherish the freedoms you have for now if you want this kind of rule.
